Not sure about painting the driveshaft but I may in silver just to preserve it.

As far as a video of the beast running, you can count on it! I’ve worked way too hard for the past two years not to celebrate that moment. As far as lighting up the tires, hopefully soon after that, with proper documentation of course.

Project 530Z update:

Wiring guru, pal Russell DiLiberto has the modified stock wire harness sorted and trimmed down to only what is needed to run the beast in this car. We laid it out to ensure the proper connections and routing in the engine bay. Next up, the harness will be neatly wrapped to look good and safe for the work it needs to do.

Stay tuned...

This engine is getting far better care in its second life than it ever did in its first.

It’s a rainy day here in western NY so no fishing or motorcycling today!
Project 530Z update:
Took the original fuel pump mounting plate and modified it to accept the modern high pressure fuel pump. Using the stock location is a big plus for access to the fuel tank lines and electric harness. With the fuel pump now in place, I’ll route the new fuel lines and pressure regulator/filter, at a spot easier to access.

I’ve been facing the dilemma of the right side exhaust header interfering with the cars frame rail by about half an inch. The original thought was to cut and weld the frame rail to provide enough clearance, but I’ve decided to modify the header flange instead by grinding off just enough for clearance. It’ll be close, but there’ll be enough meat there to connect the exhaust.

Stay tuned!

Looking at the proximity of that flange to where the TC rod bushing is, do you think heat may compromise that bushing in a short period of time? Wondering if a heat shield of some kind would be a good idea.

It’s not as close as it appears in the picture, but yes, I am installing a heat shield above the T/C rod pocket and the starter a little further down the line.

I applaud your decision to find an alternative to cutting anything out of the frame rail, especially considering this engine will be a Moby Dick on torque.

Our Massachusetts member John Jeffries owns Big Dog Parts, which specialize in S30 kits. They make a frame rail bolster kit which strengthens the rails to make them tough enough to support the V8 weight, and solid enough to resist torque from the big blocks.

Already planning on using his subframe connectors, as well as front and rear strut bars.

12-day update, pleaZe?
You have hundreds of members and thousands of Z fans hanging onto the edge of their seats, wondering what's happening to this project. That puts a personal responsibility on you to keep us posted about your progress. When we don't hear from you this close to completion, we begin to suspect you have finished and are out driving the car madly each day and night. 8)

So John, do I understand you grew tired of this project and traded it for an original 1994 Dodge Neon? :|

I think the rain stopped and he's out fishing in his new boat. :P

To be continued next winter maybe? Not the right time of the year to be in the garage

This seems to happen to most projects. They hit an "80%-Done" wall and stall.

John's 530Z will become a dusty barn find in 35 years, when some kids stumble over it while looking for their dad's solar (or nuclear)-powered lawnmower.

I can hear them now: "WOW, what the heck is THIS?! It must be one of those old gasoline cars! Look, it's 80 years old! Somebody must have forgotten to recycle it!"
