Classic Motorsports magazine released an archival article this morning on how they cleaned my engine bay. Still looks very nice, some photos attached how it still looks. Article was from 2008. That's a beautiful engine bay. Can't tell you how many times I read the articles relating to that car in classic Motorsports. Jay |

I was meaning to ask you about your ventilation hose(s) and why they aren't hooked up to the air cleaner? Also, I note you have one of the rather-rare, very early, no-flapper air cleaners; there is no seasonal flap at the intake. Only on the early '70 cars, apparently. |

My June DOM 71 has it but it never served it's purpose as the Datsun dealer cut the connection off at the bottom of the inlet to allow for the installation of the bulky piston type AC compressor (see picture). I found out later that some dealers installed the compressor on the other side of the block. Anyway, the AC has been removed a long time ago and the tuned MS header doesn't really match up well with the exhaust manifold heat shield connection AND I don't drive it much in the winter . Can't wait for spring. Today is nice but way too much salt on the roads! |

Frank this is a photo of the motor about 1996 not long after the car being dragged out of a barn. On the early cars, as far as I can research they didn't even put any decals on the air cleaner. Carl Beck could probably clear that up. The DOM is 3/70 so it's an early car. When Classic Motorsports Magazine got it they removed the motor and it was rebuilt by John Williams, Atlanta, GA delivering 190 HP at wheels. The valve settings (Cold) are as follows: Intake: 8. Exhaust: 8 Engine Block - The original block revealed a crack in a cylinder and was replaced. The original block has been retained and had the following numbers stamped/cast into it: L24 004907, E31 D211K (In my Garage along with all four corners of the original suspension) This is a link to the engine rebuild: https://classicmotorsports.com/project- ... new-heart/ Colin the older one HLS002483 3/70
