I'll bet the cylinder heads in those are pretty interesting to look at. Those are exotic engines, love it!

So it's been a bit since this has been updated. I've been waiting for some finalized pictures of the car but haven't gotten anything yet. Just this morning I reached out to check in and found that his guy at the shop has been very busy on other vehicles so the Z has been at a standstill for awhile. That explains it.

He did say that the engine runs well though, which I don't think I mentioned here yet.

It amaZes me that rebuild projects seem to burst up into the 80 percentile in a short period of time, then sort of flatten out and take forever to reach that final 20%. :?

I've noticed that trend too, wonder why that is? The home build projects I get, they go slower and life throws surprises at you here and there....so it's to be expected. But at a shop you'd think progress would be steady through completion.

In this case, maybe they are struggling with the DMV paperwork so they can register it in your name and surpriZe you with it for your next birthday. 8)

Maybe not.

It looks like the boys are back on the Z project tonight!

With the old hurricane wheels I used to run on it she's looking a lot like the General Lee to me haha. He's got a new set for her that will look great with the new look I think. And my old wheels will be finding their way onto a very original and stock 280z he's got.

I hope you get to put some miles on this car when they're finished.

I keep thinking that Jay is going to show up at one of our Z-club gatherings some day in his car.

If he does, he'll have a smile wider than the grille, and his dad will probably be with him. :D

If that ever happens my Dad would definitely be with me.

I do hope to see the car in person someday just to see the work that's been done up close. A drive would be icing on the cake, but not necessary though. Might be easier going home without it if I didn't haha.

Got this one today, looks like buffing still. Possibly done though?

You might caution him that once the taillights have been removed, it takes great effort to seal the back end against exhaust fumes being sucked back into the cabin. I didn't experience that problem during the first 12 yrs I owned the car, but as when I let it go the next owner did the body work to the car and no matter what he did, he couldn't keep the exhaust fumes from sneaking in there. I suspect the factory did it correctly, but everybody who restores the S30 seems to have the leaky problem. I didn't notice it in Johnny Z's car tho.

I'll tell him. That's a good tip.

Also, the proper alignment and fitment of the rear hatch is crucial to preventing fumes inside the cabin. I can see he hasn't fitted the hatch squarely yet. The rubber seals around the hatch and doors is important, too.

Even if nobody tells him these things, he will eventually figure it all out himself if the car leaks.
