I see it's got the round top SU's.

Do you know if they are keeping that stock exhaust manifold or will they be putting on a new header? That made a significant difference in my 240Z. Just curious.

That Z will be a real looker for sure!

I agree John, he's really doing a great job on it.

He didn't mention anything about a header...... Although until the other day there was no mention of an engine swap or engine bay painting and detailing either. So it's possible he's planning to, but I didn't hear anything on it. We will have to wait and see.

Yes the round top carbs are Ztherapy units, so they should work well. The carbs on the original engine I sold it with were Ztherapy units too. Also in good working order, so he's well fixed for carburetors haha.

No doubt these guys are falling deeper in love with this car each day.

I will say that if I were doing this build, I'd have started with the engine/engine bay first....if for no other reason than to reduce the chance of scratching the new paint.

I do think a detailed engine bay will really finish it off nicely though, something I had planned to do someday....so it's cool to see that being carried out.

I cannot wait to see it all completed!

I feel you're right. Old HotRodders used to preach that the paint shop was the last place you stopped with your rebuild.

New engine in the Bay, hopefully without damage to that beautiful new paint.

Wow, that Testa Rossa is a real contrast to that Caution Yellow! Brings to mind a stoplight somehow....
I think he missed a chance to add some colorful plug wires too, but then he'd have to hand out sunglasses before he opened the hood.

Is the Testa Rossa you are referring to the valve cover?

I know the engine is just how he bought it. I think they are shooting to get it running tonight.

I do think I would've gone with black paint or polished for the valve cover against the orange bay, but I have to admit I think the red looks better than I'd have thought in there. I actually like the look of it all. It's nothing if it's not a sanitary build, I really love the attention to detail.

I'm thrilled to see my old Z getting this much love, it's like a new car again.

Yes. In Italian it means "Red Head". In the 1950s Ferrari made most of their 250 engines with red cam covers, and the name Testa Rossa became a household word.

I never knew that was the origin, here I thought it was the boxy Ferrari model from the 80's/90's....at least I had the brand right. Funny thing is, that Tidbit of information you just shared I'll remember, but the amount of other things that I can't seem to remember is ridiculous.

That's a beautiful engine photo too, those inductions are wild looking!

Six dual-throat downdraught Weber DCNs. Throttle size depended upon engine capacity but usually 40mm. Ferrari designated both their Columbo and Lampredi engines by chamber size, not by total capacity. It was a weird formula which I once knew and thought I understood, but it has long ago been washed from my conscious memory by many tides.

Some (not all) "250" Ferraris had 300 cubic inch engines, but the proprietary combustion chamber formula figured out to "250"- something.
