Oh, what a GREAT shot!!!

That needs to become a Hallmark card! Key should be in your right hand, on a 'Z' fob.

Mannn, that should be on our homepage! No joke.

 Haha! You guys look like a couple of happy school kids on Christmas morning! What a great shot

Yup, I've ridden in TR3s and 4s before (not since the '70s) and I agree, they are primitive (like the Healey) when compared to our wonderful Z cars. I remember being SO astounded when I first sat in a (later my) Z.....it was completely comfortable without any effort, everything fit and fell to hand. It had adjustable seats, 4-way flashers, two speed windscreen wipers and an ASHTRAY! I could reach all the way back to the luggage or reach both doors and had headroom without slouching my shoulders and when I DROVE it, it felt like a small caddy compared to my MGB or A-H.

But still, there's a inimitable flair to the Open Two-Seater, knock-off wire-wheel, knuckle-dragging, bugs-in-your-hair British sports cars of the '50s and '60s. You could hear everything, feel every bump and smell everything cooking under the bonnet. The fuel pump tapped a tattoo at stoplights. Squeaks and rattles were part of the car and you could picture in your mind what was rubbing against what to make this sound or that. My scissors shocks sang little tunes to me when I cut corners or hit bumps. The exhaust system bottomed out on high speed bumps and filled my mirror with showers of sparks flying out the back of the car at night. And of course, there was Lucas....Prince of Darkness....who could rear his ugly head at any given moment, for no apparent reason, leaving you negotiating a decreasing-radius downhill tree-lined back-country road by starlight.
HOW did we survive the '60s? And they seemed to last forever....far longer than a decade.

Cheers to you both. Standing applause for your wonderful little TR.

Here's to internal combustion, and wind in the face.

Frank, I think you summed that up perfectly! All of your comments are so true, but on a smoooooth twisty road it is exciting!

Great looking TR3!  And the smiles on both Colin's from ear to ear. :D

My 5th grade teacher gave me a ride home from school in his black TR3. I was hooked on sports cars ever since!

Remember the T-2, with the cave-like Heinz ketchup label grille?

Well....not quite a Heinz Ketchup label. The TR2 grille was an small open affair, for theTR3 they put an eggshell grate at mouth with some chrome trim. This was all to guide cool air to the radiator.
The next design change was the "wide mouth grille" which mine is. How ever they tucked a cardboard piece behind the grille to accomplish the same effect as the TR2/3.
Photo attached of an early TR2, then the TR3 with the egg shell grille. Mine is the wide grille and a shot of the air deflecting piece, yes they painted the cardboard to match!

Yes! That's it!

I once met a TR gathering arriving at a Cape Cod restaurant as my family and I were leaving, probably 1963/4-ish. A guy driving a TR-2 had a sizable dead seagull in his 'radiator cove' and no idea how or when it had arrived there. Silly memories of certain cars.

What I like best about this photo array is the final shot, of the later TR3 on the carpet. It makes me hope the car spent it's winters in the living room to be worked on? It wouldn't be the first time I heard of that.

I will remind you that the first time I visited you (to pickup my new brain bucket from Neon John, I think?) you showed me this car, undergoing surgery in your 'TR studio' out back. You also had a small collection of them nestled under the eaves of other barnes and garages around your property? What ever became of those?

I love these cars with Brooklands screens on them......

Frank, what! you don't have an Oriental carpet under your Z? Makes getting under a lot more comfortable than a cold concrete floor...
No, I never had a collection of TR's...you must have somebody else in mind, now just who was it?
I'd like to see that myself!

Stop ~ weren't you building this car in a shed/barn/garage to the right of your house, as you viewed from the road? Didn't you have it sitting up on an elevated table (sort of?). I'm almost sure it was you. Neon John left my crash hat with you and I drove to you to pick it up and you showed off your pride and joy. In the back yard you had another bldg with a pile of stuff (woodpile?) and two more TR bodies under a tarp at the corner of the bldg (yellow?).

C'mon dude....stop scarin' me! My memory isn't THAT bad already, is it?

Wait wait....could it have been Neon John himself? Does he race TRs? GeeZe, it was a one-time visit 9 years ago....might I be mistaken? Maybe I'm just confusing the visit because you two guyZ were raising the same cars....?

My head hurts. My head sure does hurt (Tommy Lee Jones, Electric Mist).

Forgive me, Colin ~ you are correct. It was Neon John with the barn full of old UmphUmphUmphs. I went to his country home to pick up my new crash hat back in 2009. I dug up the 9yr old post.

Classic case of confabulation and mis-association.
