I have learned by email this morning that "an early 240" has been auctioned in Japan for 12 million Yen, or $108,000USD ( ). The conversation(s) didn't include a story link, but I am trying to get one to learn more from and to share here. One writer mentioned an "incredible journey" and an "incredible story", so I know there's more available somewhere.

The car appears to be a lhd US model, Safari Gold, in excellent condition. It differs from Lucky#13 or Jim Arnett's car by having 5 slot mags and no black stripe along the bottom side skirts of the car. If it's #13 it's been repainted, and if it's Jim Arnett's car it has new (old) wheels. It does look as if the driver's side dogleg may have been patched, but the photo is unclear.

I have spoken by phone to Rick Morgan, who laughs and says Lucky#13 was still safe at home last time he checked. Whatever the VIN of this auction car is, #13 is still older and (unless the auctioned car belonged to someone very famous like Mister K), #13 should be more valuable than this one.

if anyone can find some information about this sale before I do, pleaZe post it here ASAP? The sale of any 240Z at this price automatically boosts the value of every other S30, I would think.

Frank T

Hey Frank. Word on the street is that this was one of the 'factory' resto program cars - hence the premium. I thought these were trading in the $60K - $70K range...I guess prices have gone up LOL.

Thanks, Colin! You're right. Carl Beck advises this was Jun/70 240Z HLS30-05811 from the Datsun Heritage restoration program. It was bought and stored at length by a Japanese national who drove it out of storage and straight onto the auction block.

There is no article about this sale and the photo I received was a personal picture taken by someone (probably Kats) at the auction who forwarded it to his Z-friend here in the states, because it shows the car and the auction board showing 12,000,000 Yen.

This was one of the very few Heritage cars which Nissan perfectly restored 20 years ago and sold back to the public for $25,000 each. A pretty good return on the investment, if you ask me.

I just read another article which claims the final sale amount was actually 13,200,000 JPY. My converter shows that being equivalent to $120,000 usd today.
