Bolting on the rebuilt 1972 SU intake to the L28/F54/N42. This week, new masters for the clutch and brakes, new choke cables, new fuse box. Next weekend the drive train goes back in the car. Hopefully!

Actually not sure who makes the header Frank. It's a nice 6 into two with a 2.5 inch custom exhaust. Looking forward to hearing it! |

Were you thinking of wrapping the headers or leaving them "plain Jane" naked? I think it looks sweet, the way it is, unwrapped. |

The header actually looks as if it might have been ceramic coated already. If it has it won't need wrapping at all; all the heat is channelized right out the back and you can actually grab the header just a few minutes after shutting the engine off (test carefully before you can brag about that on your car. My header & exhaust are coated inside and out, block-to-bumper; your mileage may vary). What those individually-tuned headers DO give you is a chance to mount true dual exhausts all the way back to the bumper. Whoever makes that header will offer several collector pipes for it, allowing you to chooZe what kind of pipes you want to run under the car. |

The header is ceramic coated. The 2.5 inch exhaust is dual, through twin bullet resonators then combined into one just in front of the muffler. I'll get a pic up soon. If I can find a true dual outlet ANSA type muffler, I'll make it a true dual system. Hard to find AND expensive! |

Exhaust Warehouse in NYC still has them. I'll get you a number shortly. Nothing sounds better on a Z than dual ANSAs with CherryBomb mufflers ("mufflers" HA!) I also have an old set of Quad Ferrari ANSAs in the garage which I guess I'll never use now. They need to be separated (unbolted) into two units before they would be usable for a Z, but they probably would sound wonderful. |

The Exhaust Warehouse 718.847.5200 ANSA duals P/N A35185 (2) x $40 2" or 3" mandrel-bent "Aluminized" exhaust 87-72 130th st, Richmond Hill NY 11418 You still have to buy two CHERRY BOMB glass packs, P/N 545-87510CB ($30 ea) 2.25" ID, 18" body Available many places, here's one: 1.800.345.4545 and the original dealer setup had twin chrome exhaust tips sticking out the mouse hole, stacked O/U, stopping even with the rear bumper. Probably available thru any auto store. Total setup with shipping less than $200 and your local muffler shop can mount it for you. |

The exhaust that I have was originally custom made for this car. Fits right up to the header. It is a 2.5 inch dual exhaust running through TWO glasspack cherrybomb "mufflers" in the center, continuing on to merge into a single unit at the rear. If I can find a dual outlet 2.5 inch rear resonator for the rear, I can have it attached to what I have. I'll post a pic of it on my next update. If not, no worries, this setup is pretty mean sounding. But the dual tips DO look awesome! |

Thats a Clifford header. The original pipes were 2" duals with 1.5" tipped glasspacks at the back. Dual 2.5"s flow around the same as a single 3.5" exhaust which is pretty oversized for street engines. Even the dual 2" pipes are too big for most of these engines that arent revving to the moon but they sound great and look cool which is good enough for me running errands |

Update 3-6-17: The ZCCR boys (Tom Bork, Frank Swiader, Bob Mooney - the pit crew for HLS30-00008) were AWESOME this weekend! Got the new SU intake mated up to the head, refurbished 5 speed transmission in place and the HOT L28 bolted up and in. Real progress! This week, getting the fuel lines and hoses in, fan & clutch, coolant lines and radiator. Then button up the driveshaft, fill and bleed brake and clutch hydraulics. Hopefully in another week or two, she'll come to life. Stay tuned....

Looks worn but that is surface rust from sitting around in the box. Also resurfaced the flywheel. An interesting note: This car is a 1972 model, built 5/72. When we went to install the transmission, we discovered that the mount was the VERTICAL type (like the series one cars), not the later "horizontal bolt" type found on later Z cars. I wonder when the switch in mounts was made? |

Carl or Jimbo might know. Mine's vertical and the transmission mount bolt is (was) captured in the little box. Had to drill a hole in the box to access the nut. |
