I just got word from Jason that he and Bernie will probably pass thru CT this Saturday morning. I'm offering him a meal and a motel for the night and he would like to meet as many of us as possible. Anybody wanting to see this unique 1970 Fairlady Z and hear a few good Z stories is urged to set aside an hour or so this weekend (more details as they firm up). Jason will be coming South down I-91, from Hartford toward New Haven. I recommended he stop in North Haven because it's central to a lot of us, easy to reach from anywhere, and there are some good restaurants and a good motel there. It would be very cool if any of us could meet up with him along the route and ride South down I-91 with him. Again, his plans aren't firm yet but that's what he's thinking about doing so far. It would be very cool if he could see Lucky13 too, but I don't know what Rick's plans for the weekend are.
Frank

Sounds Great Frank - be sure to take a good Photog with you - and get good pictures for Art's opening story....

Everyone might have to call or texts some friends - that aren't checking in here - as well. LOL

We've almost 100% decided on North Haven (exit12) for Saturday. The Best Western there was the only place I could find quickly which allows dogs. I know there are a bunch of good-enough restaurants up there, near that motel, and a state park up the road from it, too.
I want to drive north on I-91 and wait for him to pass by southbound, and escort him down to the exit. It would be very cool to have a bunch of other Zs with me. Details (time) to be decided ASAP.
I would like to show Jason some of our better classic restoration shops around here if he has time/inclination (F-40 motorsports, Manny Dragone, Automotive Restoration, Inc) but I don't know how up to that he'll be. He's driven more than 5000 miles in the past 2 weeks. Nothing for an 18-wheeler driver, but in a Z that's a lot. Maybe he'd just like to crash for a day.

His wipers quit outside Portland, and the rain is too heavy to proceed. Forecast shows the rain until dawn Sat, so he's delayed a bit. He can't check into the room until 1PM anyway, so this might work out better than expected.

PS the forecast shows SNOW for us on Tuesday.

OK, it appears Jason and Bernie should reach central CT about noon Sat or slightly before. If we can meet at the Best Western motel, 201 Washington Ave in North Haven (exit 12 off I-91 north or south) about 10-11AM, we should be able to greet him. Maybe we'll lurk in the I-91S rest stop to intercept him and escort him down the road.

Rick has also said he'll bring Lucky #13 so Jason can Zee it. We have Jason a room at the Best Western for Sat night and we'll buy him dinner somewhere close to the motel.

Open invitation to whomever is free to gather (even for awhile) to greet this adventurer.
Look for the Zs parked in the Best Western parking lot btwn 10-11AM.

It's going to be a great Z day! Hope to Zee a lot of clubbies in North Haven this morning. We're aiming for 10AM-ish.

Carl, we're having a great time with Jason and Bernie. Spent a lot of the day with Rick and Lucky #13, and Jason actually got to drive the earliest-VIN 240Z ever released for sale to the USA! Details later, after we feed him at a steakhouse. He's happy with his motel room (it's full of college girls this weekend) and Bernie likes the room, too.

WHEW!!!
There are so many details to the fun we had today, it's hard to know where to begin. First of all, many thanks to all the members who came out to meet Jason (and Bernie) and share some time with them. Special thanks to our Club Photographer, Alan Dempsey and his perfect Z,who actually made the first contact with Jason and crammed lunch with us into his demanding schedule today (hope you made it to your other appointments, Al), to Surfer D, who brought tools needed to repair Jason's fuse box (even while babysitting), to Big Al Babik, who shared a dinner full of stories and discussion, laughter and intrigue, and brought Lil' Red to make our Z caravan red, white and blue. Thanks to Jason Winget for spending a whole day with us and letting me finally drive a RHD Fairlady Z, and for nobly insisting on paying for everyone's lunch and throwing down the tip at every table...and especially to Rick Morgan, who took time out of his day to not only meet Jason and show him Lucky#13, but to let him actually drive it and Zee some of his other cars. Jason and Rick struck a harmonic and spent a long time talking "Z". In fact, Jason was so impressed with Rick's collection that he volunteered to come back tmrw and do some work on Rick's cars before heading south. Lucky#13 needed some TLC today and Jason provided it, charging the battery, adding fuel and tuning the SUs. In return he got a great bar story about how he has officially worked on and driven the lowest-VIN 1969 240Z manufactured for the American market. It literally put goosebumps on his arms to meet and drive this car.
After a steak dinner and hours of conversation, we released one very tired Jason to do his laundry, work on his fusebox a little and sleep in a real bed for only the second time in 3 weeks.

We are the first Z Club Jason has had any contact with since starting his journey three weeks ago. The guys in Rochester and NYC would have loved to hear Jason's stories and help him along his route, but they never knew about him. Thanks to Carl Beck, our Club has had the first chance to try to make Jason's trip a bit easier and more fun, and he said visiting us has been the highlight of his adventure so far. We are confident other Z clubs along Jason's planned route can get advanced word of his passage thru their area, meet him, and lend him whatever help he may need. Sometimes just the companionship of a friendly Z family can be enough. He's headed into NYC today and wants to glimpse the Statue of Liberty if possible. Maybe Clive Bogle's NYZCC can meet with him and escort him there? (Regret the short notice, Clive)!

It's been fun letting Jason know we applaud his adventure and will follow his progress. Some of our members have contacted Art Singer at ZCCM and Grassroots Automotive magazine, telling them of Jason's great enterpriZe and hoping they will feature his travels in a feature article.

Although it was hoped that Jason could attend our 14Oct meeting at Miller Nissan in Fairfield, and maybe even our Annual Fall Outing picnic, neither event fits his plan. He must head south again tomorrow, and we hope our member Carl Beck will stay in touch with him and maybe alert Z clubs on his path. Jason will meet Carl and our member Jimbo Frederick while he is in Florida, and our member Jim Arnett when he passes near Richardson TX. We have all urged Jason to join our Club and he says he plans to as soon as we leave him alone long enough to get to his computer.
This has been a really fun day. Thanks, Carl ~ yours was a grand idea!

Frank

Hi Frank / Everyone:
Wow - sounds like you all had a great time together. The entire time sounds like it was very much in the spirit of Mr. K and the Z Car ! Hats Off to all of you for your kindness and generosity to a stranger passing though.. Also thanks for the daily report..

I’ll be looking forward to seeing some of the pictures Al took as well..

Maybe if I can put it off long enough - I'll have Jason help me put the engine back in my Blue 72 240Z when he’s here - LOL I’ll put him right to work.. We can put Colt and Bernie in the back yard to play.. LOL
