Liam made the Salt Lake Tribune yesterday. Great accomplishment.

He IS one of ours.

Liam was instrumental in getting the CTZCC involved in AutoX racing with CART some years ago. He is extremely proud of his NISMO 350Z, which RDZ has set up for racing and in which Liam caught the attention of several racing teams who found him promising. They made him offers this year, and Liam opted for the Team Mazda offer. He crashed at Laguna Seca, Won at Lime Rock, and will race at Virginia International Raceway later this year.

He's decided to go Pro, and there's no better time in your career to score a win, than in your first season! Can you imagine how exciting that must be?

When Liam was shipped home in 2011, I visited him in Bethesda Naval Hospital. Basically he remembered the explosion beneath him in Afghanistan with all his Marines around him, then coming-to in his hospital bed in Maryland with his family around him. The only part of his body which wasn't riddled by shrapnel was his left arm, and they had that so full of I-Vs he couldn't move it. His left leg was gone above the knee, his right arm and leg were shattered and missing pieces, his chest was full of holes and tubes, ribs were broken and one lung had been deflated by shrapnel. He was imbedded with tiny bits of Afghanistan, head to toe. I'm sure I've been in worst shape, but I really don't remember when.

He was drifting in and out of morpine-consciousness, but spoke clearly and directly. He asked about the Club and told me emphatically he intended to stay in the Corps and to RACE AGAIN, and WIN.

He has done all three, and has been decorated and promoted along the way. I truly believe whatever this man sets his mind on doing, he'll do.

Frank T

That's very cool Mike. Your post reminds me that we haven't seen you for a loooong time. I think you need to plan a trip east to visit the old gang!
