Just bough a set of triple Mikunis with performance filters, manifold & linkage. They have been on a shelf for several years and I accidentally stumbled across them at a machinists (non automotive) shop today while attending to other business. He was knowledgeable and appeared to know a bit about Datsuns and L-series motors. I saw the opportunity and jumped on them, basing my negotiations on what I know of the triple Weber setups. I paid $850 for the whole shebang seeing as how I recall complete Italian Weber setups going for $1000-ish.

Did I pay fair market value, overpay or get a bit of a deal?

Seems like a decent price.
Are you going to have them rebuilt?

What size are they? 40's, 44's? I purchased a complete set up of 40's mikunis with intake on ebay for $550. I think I stole them because I gave yet to see any that cheap.

dunno if they are 40's or 44's, how would I go about checking that? Will most likely have them rebuilt once I free up some funds. I paid more for these than I did for most cars I own so...yeah

Identified as 44's with a rebuild prior to storage.

Greg, what did you decide on this?
They're basically worth more than Webers, since they're easier to tune and rejet (some people think). A good set of used/rebuilt Italian Webers with a Canon manifold (not individual like yours are) would run in the ballpark of $1500.

I was thinking of piecing together a set of triple mikunis since I heard they are much easier to live with, make good power out of the box and easier to tune than webers. Ive heard lots of weber "horror" stories of single digit fuel economy and constant tuning . Doesnt sound so great for my daily driver!

Well, the 'constant tuning' is a myth. Once you properly tune a set of Webs for your car, they stay that way until you change them. What people talk about is the need to change jets and tubes if they change altitude. If you're driving cross country the car will perform differently in the mountains than it did at the seacoast, but if you live in the flatlands and spend all your time at the same altitude, the car will run consistently as you set it up. Tuning each cylinder for optimum performance is what takes the time.
Also Webs need to be mounted 'loosely' instead of rigidly. All the instructions tell you that, but a surprising number of people crank them down tight to the manifold and then wonder why they don't get outstanding performance from them.
Not at all sure if Miks or Solex are like that?
