The very best Z painter I've ever even HEARD of lives right here in CT ~ Jim Kinsella (might have spelled that wrong?).

He works alone, does all his work in his own paint booth, at his own pace. He takes forever and costs a fortune, but his Zs win trophies each and every time they show anyplace. He only does a couple cars each year.

If you're not familiar with him, ask anyone about his work.

Also, our member Burns works at a body shop and does a lot of painting. He owns a garage full of Zs and knows what he's doing. Nowhere near as expensive as Kinsella.

Bump for any more updates/advice. I am in Milford CT

I would like to get a Type 1 air damn put on my 905 Red 71 Z. Looking for someone that can inspect current paint and match it as closely as possible. Painting could occur on or off the car, assuming the person knew enough to not damage things.

Not a big rush, but just looking to see how much it might cost and where this shop/person might be located.

Mike,
I would suggest contacting Jim Kinsella. He now has his own shop in Beacon Falls and has done excellent work on a number of cars in our club including my 71 Z, Mike Winiters', Dave Sirico's and others. As Frank mentioned, he is not cheap but his work is excellent.

His contact info:
PH: 203-843-5223
Email: zfan73@msn.com

He also does motorcylcle paint work.

Very professional paint and body person.

Mike,
(Our CTZCC member) Jim Kisella (spelling correction, with my apologieZ) retired from a couple decades of professional car painting at Automotive Restorations, New England's highest-caliber restoration shop:

http://www.automotiverestorations.com/ari/portfolio (be sure to press the PROJECTS, the PORTFOLIO and the AWARDS buttons to see some of Jim's work).

He was the lead painter there for years and painted multi-million-dollar classic cars on a routine basis. Most of the truly outstanding Concours winners in this region have been painted by him. He is nationally known and sought after.

Mike Winters' 240Z wins trophies each time he enters it in any competition. It is an exceptional black paint job which looks as if you could sink your arm into it up to the elbow. People gawk at his car in amaZement and he wins People's Choice at nearly every car show. Jim K painted that car over 10 years ago (!!!) and it still wins every show.

I dare say you cannot get a better paint job anywhere. I'll zee if I can find a picture of Mike's open hood, reflecting like a mirror at last October's Annual Fall Outing picnic.
Jim has a waiting list so I doubt you'd get in this winter, but asking is free.

Frank T

File comment: No, this isn't a full-length mirror. It's Mike Winters' open hood, 10 years after Jim Kisella got ahold of it.
