This just in:

Burton Brown has returned to the Bonneville salt flats with his record-breaking 240Z in an attempt to break the 200 mph mark. Burt set the standing F/GT class record a couple years ago by exceeding 173mph in a stock-bodied 240 with a Rebello engine, but feels he can do better.

One of several tricks he's using this year will be to let under hood air pressure escape better than he did on previous runs. Class rules require the car to be basically stock (except for safety modifications), which means the interior is pretty much intact. Lots of weight could be shaved if the interior was removed, and the roll cage even adds weight to the car body on top of the basic curb weight of a stock Z.

Our much-missed / relocated SLC member Mike Rosann is headed out to the salt to watch the preparations this weekend. Hopefully he can tie up with Burt and bring us some pictures.

Stay tuned for more news as we get it, film at 11.

Andddd.....here's the film. This is what it's like to drive 173mph in a 240Z.

File comment: Burton Brown hopes to push his F/GT record-holding 240Z above 200mph, making it the fastest 240Z on the planet.

We have heard from our Wisconsin member Burton Brown again with good news. He is attempting new records this year, and has asked some of us to help! As you recall, he holds the world's Land Speed Record for the S30-bodied 240Z cars at 173mph. He has set (and broken) the LSRs at 4 of the USA's 5 fastest salt/beach tracks.

Burton is headed for the Loring Maine LSR track in two weeks (25-26Apr) to attempt to take the record at the 5th (out of 5) fastest tracks in the USA, and will commit his Salt Assault at ElMirage later this year. He already owns the F/GT records at the other 4 fastest tracks, including Bonneville.

Here's how we can help. Burton is shorthanded a few crew members this trip, due to unrelated obligations. He has his top wrenches with him, but needs a few extra hands. Anyone who can spring free to meet him at Loring Maine and help out in any way, please do! You will be credited as having helped a 240Z break the Land Speed Record for that class and get your picture taken with the car! You needn't be an Ace mechanic, but being able to safely turn a wrench or even run errands would be a help.

Burton will also take his streamliner with him, which has already topped 200mph. Anyone who helps out will get to watch and participate in all the fun.

Also, there is a racing gearbox in Massachusetts which needs to make its way up to Loring for Burt to use it in his run. Our member John Jeffries (BadDog Parts) has a Tremac gearbox which he can't drive up to Maine in time for Burt to use. Anyone who can spare the time to help out is encouraged to swing thru Mass to pick up the gearbox from John and carry it up to Burt. You could even volunteer to help install it!
Just think of the GREAT bar stories you can get from this experience!!!! You can honestly say you helped the world-record-holding 240Z break another Land Speed Record!

Anyone who is interested in helping Burton go fast (and maybe helping a 240Z break 200mph), please contact Burton on his BlogSite: (http://victorymotorsports.org/cars/) or email him at burtonb07@GMail.com.
