be crowding 20. Driving a Bimmer at the present. However...............

Z's have it all! I can see myself getting another car but not for very long if I dont have a Z to go along with it. Affordable, reliable, easy to work on, cheap parts, good looks and tons of fun. Couldnt ask for anything more.

Met another Z owner today! Someone told me about a Z behind a sewing shop in Norwalk so I decided to check it out. Talked to the owner for a bit and then gave him the info for the fall outing this weekend. I feel like Ive seen the car on craigslist before, its a blue 240Z with a blue interior and had a lot of rust on the hood. The Z im thinking of had an engine bay fire so it still could be the same car. No camera with me today so no pics :(

Went back today and got some pictures
Pretty rare interior color, no?

I would call that a late '71, due to the vertical defroster strips in the hatch, but the 2nd generation steering wheel, adjustable seats and side vent holes on the "C" column.

What does he plan to do with this car, do you know?

He did say it was up for sale for a while but didnt get much interest. No idea about the last time its been run, price or what it looks like under the car though I can probably guess .

Daphnes alive and well and I decided to put the Holley 390cfm through its paces yesterday with a 0-60 run. Daphne encounters a 4bbl?

Startup was quicker than I expected and the engine barely cranked. Launch was too hot on the 0-60 run and the tires were spinning up until about 30mph (3/4 of 1st!). 0-60 time is ~6.4 seconds but I think I could get it down into the 5 second range if I tune the carb better and change up my driving a bit. Pulled the air cleaner off today and a crispy toasted sticker fell out .

Overall the 4bbl isnt so bad. Startups are quicker especially in below freezing temperatures, much smoother throttle response with the throttle cable, better highway fuel economy, and id bet its faster ( even though I dont have a good video of acceleration with the SU's). I hope someone buys this setup so I have an excuse to run and compare the SU's with SM needles that I have

Oh, and heres the video

Startups are quicker because you have added an actual choke, rather than just a 'fuel enrichener' device on the SUs.

A properly set-up 4Bbl will make the 240 run like a scalded cat. I didn't have time when I read this to look up the CFM of our dual SUs, but they don't match that 390. Every engine is basically just an air pump, so the more air you can run thru it, the more power it makes. And down draught carbs generally breathe better than side draught carbs. Finally, that 4Bbl has a designated Accelerator Pump Plunger, which squirtZ raw fuel down the manifold whenever you punch the throttle. That eliminates the (slight) hesitation you get from SUs when you do that.

The 240Z runs very-respectable 8-second 0-60 times, stock. That's excellent for a $3,000 sportscar. Any increase you make in power (or reduction in weight) will effect that. Your headers, ANSA exhaust, cam and carb should have shaved a lot of time off those stock figures.

I know y'all are tired of hearing me harp on this, but back in The Day, the 'mighty' Cobra was the first production car to leave the showroom with a weight/power ratio of 10:1, which gave it 0-60 times of 6 seconds, flat. That was spaceship technology for a street car in 1963. Today, the little ricer Hondas can match those numbers. In 1970 Bob Sharp's 240Z walked away from all the mighty 427 Corvettes, Mustangs and Cobras on many race courses when he built his car up to a 7:1 ratio.

If you want hot performance from your Z (and you intend to keep that radical cam), you'll stick with that 4Bbl.

Theres a ton of debate on the 4bbl performance (the 90° turn that the air+fuel has to make) on the Z along with questioning how good the intakes are for fuel distribution along the cylinders so most people dont run them. Stock SU's flow about 217cfm, flat tops, 245cfm, TWM / SK / Weber Triple 40mm EFI Throttlebody (40mm x 6) 1140 cfm. I had a 650cfm carb but I didnt want to go through jetting it for the car ($10 for a pair of jets would get pricey very fast). Now I really want to get my hands on another set of triples!

I bought the carb on ebay, set the idle mixture, changed the pump cam setting, accelerator pump clearance, and idle speed. No idea what jets are in it, the accelerator pump nozzle, or how stiff the secondary springs are so im hoping theres some more room for improvement . Im not trying to make a drag car or anything but I cant think of any other way to show performance

Filipe, I have quite a few subscribers from a cheesy movie I uploaded a couple years ago 8)

Looks like im on the market for another 5 slot. The white stuff on the wheel is most definitely powdered sugar. All the nice cars appear to be hidden away for the winter so there havent been any cool encounters but my engine bay did get a change

That interior color is in the other Hawaiian white Z car Frank. I think it is rare, and in his car, Wow, looks nice.

The partz car you showed above has 4 five-slot wheels. One of them should work for you.

Buy the car.
