Well, I sure hope he checks your confabulator release valves and anti-transitional diaphragm sensors. The Black Pearl was a very unique machine, indeed.

You might want to let a friend look over your bill when he's done.....

Well, here is an update on the Black Pearl's journey to ZCON. I am currently vacationing in RI, but the car is in CT. So yesterday I had my RI buddy Robin Foote drive me to Kingston train station so that I could board a train to Bridgeport. Then I had my CT buddy Frank Thomas pick me up and drive me to Vinny's shop in New Milford. After examining all of the parts that came off my car, I settled up with Vinny and journeyed south to my house in Darien. I then installed the horn spring for the original steering wheel that I finally found laying around my garage and swapped out my new slotted mags for my "new" Nissan mags, which have never been mounted to tires before. At about 7:30pm, I got back on the road to RI and about 9:45pm, I pulled into Robin's place where the car will be garaged.

So my next item on the "to-do" list is to have the car detailed (I'm too old and cranky to do the work myself) and find someone local that can install the stripe kit.

On the way up from CT to RI, the car ran like a champ. I admit to pushing it a little bit to see how it would perform and for a short stretch reached 85mph. No problems whatsoever. I highly recommend a working horn and brakes to everyone. Plus the new tie rods, bushings and everything else Vinny did made a big difference.

So thanks to three people I never would have met if it were not for this club, my Z is now roadworthy and on it's way to ZCON. Thank you Frank, Robin and Vinny - you guys are the best!

Ross

Car is currently co-habitating with Robin's 1970 240Z. When I checked on it today, I could tell the two vehicles were happy to be together.

Laid out the stripe kit today:

9 driver's side stripes
9 passenger side stripes
1 deck lid stripe

Have an appointment on Tuesday at 9:00m at a body shop in Pawtucket, RI to have them installed.

Yes, there are two hood stripes, but they label them as "Driver's 1" and "Passenger 1" for each side of the hood.

I had always thought they were a horseshoe-shaped single piece unit. The accuracy with which these stripes get installed is amazing.

The stripe kit is so precious (and hard to find), that I've seen BP cars with PAINTED stripes. Those never look right and spoil the whole Special Appearance Package effect.

Some amateurs try to make a standard 280 into a BP, but since the EPA outlawed lead paint, they just can't duplicate the real deal. And finding those BP wheels isn't easy, either.

Please be sure to take some BEFORE and AFTER pics for us, Ross.

Oh how I envy you folks going to the big party in your neck of the woods. Several members of ZCoT are on the way, including "Mad Mike" Taylor and his lovely wife Katie. I'll just have to be satisfied with a second-hand experience when they return and give us a full rundown at our next monthly meeting. Good luck to all, hope you have fun and score some nice awards.

Sure would be cool to have you come up and participate, Jim. Thor was intending to meet with Mad Mike in TX and drive one of his Zs up here, but that changed when a woman driver knocked Thor off his MotoGuzzi and put him in traction for 7 weeks.
Maybe you can't join us, but at least you're not in the hospital while the rest of us are having fun.

Frank
