Change is good!

Started off with a 73 240z that I finished days before 07 ZCON. Rough around the edges but she was fast.

Image

Then I wanted paint because every car I was around had it so I switched over and build this 71 240z.

Image

After having the 71 built for 3 years now, I realize I wanted a car I can drive for longer periods of time, have ac, not smell like fumes and STOCK body lines So I bought my good friend's car that has not seen action in sometime. A red 260z.

Image

If you follow any of my previous builds you can see that is my boy Joe's garage and his old 260z (more pics to come) but the plan is to breathe new life into her with my full LS1 swap and goodies from my 71. The 71 will be broken down in a few weeks for parts. This is an exciting swap AGAIN for me because of the history of the car and it will give me everything I am looking for in a v8 powered car today. For those thinking, why the hell would you do all that work again, the biggest drive for the move was it would cost me too much to go back to stock or subtle Z lines. Painting cars up here NYC area just cost way too much. My free labor is the way to go! =)

Stay tuned as this swap takes place........again!

I remember that original '73 Evil Z, which you drove to our first Z Show in Darien. Everybody watched you leave and climb up onto the highway ~ and you didn't disappoint anyone 8) . That was the first day I met you. What was that, like 100 years ago??

So since the 327 came out of the car and went to Rob I have barely done anything with the car. I did get the front end repainted back in August and she has just sat. So knowing I may have a slow month in Feb coming up at work I moved the car back to Joes place in NJ and plan to have her up and running in a few weeks!

Powdered parts

So picking up a few items I need so I can begin next week. Entire front end will be brand new with TTT goodies. 3.9 LSD diff going in the rear. Going to be doing a wire tuck and AU front turn signals with HID headlights maybe. More to come...............

I was wondering why he was putting pick parts on it…

Clive, how do you place the pictures within the thread like that?

I covet thy heated garage space.

In a lot of ways it makes more sense to use the 260 body for V8 power than a 240 body. It would probably be even more-gooder to use a heavier, stiffer 280 body. With all that power and torque, your 400+hp V8 is hardly gonna notice the weight difference, but the lighter 240 bodies probably twisted themselves pretty noticeably under all that force. I suspect the heavier bodies would handle better and last longer.

When Brian Morrow first made the Scarab, all he had to work with were 240 bodies. He spent a lot of time bolstering the bodies by adding trusses (and additional weight) to make them handle the extra V8 torque, and his engines were only 327s to begin with. I don't recall if Scarab Engineering lasted long enough to use the 280 or even the 260 bodies. I know he tried working out of Tulsa OK and southern California, before he got shut down by changing EPA regulations, but I don't recall what year that was.

Do your Evil Zs have a 'shelf life'? By the time you pull one apart, is it showing any signs of wear or stress?

Also interested to hear about the 240+LS feel. There were 280Z Scarabs and I pulled this article clipping from somewhere on the later Scarabs. Also found a scarab that looks awfully familiar
