seeing a previous thread made me think. we all loved building models and i have been wanting to build a nice one for once and actually finish it... so why don't all who want to go buy a Z model and build it and as they come along post some pictures of your progress on this thread. could be a new winter hobby while we wait to drive the real things. :D just an fyi it's pretty easy to find models of Z cars on ebay. if anybody needs help let me know. and when we finish everyone can vote on the one they like best.

I WOULD LOVE to do this. Model building + Z?? Not sure it gets much better than this! Please let me know where I can find one, without putting a hole in my pocket!

Love this idea! Sounds like a great father/son project for me and my 9 year old. I know there are tons on eBay. Any recommendations? Certainly a Bob Sharp model would be high on my list.

Carl Beck will be disqualified for this!

Just last year some Japanese craftsman created a perfect scale model of Carl's Baja Rallye car ~ the only one in the world ~ in really big scale.

Carl could win just by entering it

And Dave Russell already has a showcase full of Z models he made years ago ~ do ours have to be recent, or can he enter old work?

I had two hobby/crafts shops close in my area within the past 2 years. I think there might be ONE place left where they still sell model cars (Michael's Crafts, up in North Haven? Do they still sell models?).

I would love to re-create my old BSR car (#0006) and paint it in the red/white/blue BSR livery again!

Count me in! Great idea, Mike!

Frank

Sounds good to me!

My 1/24 scale 1986 Corolla is about 1/3 the way there... haven't touched it in ages though.

I had planned to build my 1/24 1984 300ZR Turbo after that... it's still in its box.

My AE86 is produced by Aoshima.

How big would you say your 1/24 comes out to?

Mike, should we put a deadline on this? A certain by-date for building, and a not-later-than date for judging?

Or should it not be so organiZed?

Frank

I think to be fair we are talking about models built since the creation of this post and built personally - not by others. Can't wait to choose one on eBay! We might need a category for "ex presidents and their sons" to ensure we win!

With your son's luck, you probably will.

I remember an item he specifically wanted on the raffle table at our Z car show a few years ago, and bought a single ticket so he'd have a chance at it ~ and got it! :D

The 1/24 comes out to something like 7" long.

I'm thinking of other finding a 280z and making a mini version of my Z or I did see a Bob Sharp 280zx race car on eBay. And yeah Ross this sounds like something fun for you and your son to do together. I'll post some links of models I find.

Frank why not make the deadline the annual car show this year and we can display our models at the show and have them voted on there? So even if you don't drive a Z there you can still enter one. And I think it's cool if someone would like to bring a previously finished Z model. :D
