Just wanted to share these cool cutaway sketches of the 510 (Vinny could tell us what year it was), the 240Z, and the S20 2.0L DOHC Skyline engine.

In Japan (only), this 2.0L six cylinder made 162bhp for the Fairlady 432. Triple dual-throat carbs (Webers, Solexes, or Mikuniis) helped the cross-flow DOHC hemispherical heads generate even more power. In the states, the 2.4L 240Z made 151bhp. We weren't allowed to have the S20 Skyline engine over here ~ Japan didn't trust us with it, I guess :roll:

Nice pics! Those 2 liter twincams are ultra rare, or so i've read. There was some thread about it in classiczcars.com and there was one for sale, i think it was something like 30000$...

Yeah, they had great performance even stock, and more potential if you opened them out beyond 2.0L.

The original Fairlady Z (Japanese Z) in 4-3-2 form was a screamer, and is hailed as the hotrod of the early Z cars.

But having driven in Japan and Okinawa myself, I couldn't picture that much performance being reasonably usable anywhere in their road system.

Max fun for short bursts, tho!

Thor just returned home from a cruise thru the Alps in his 240Z ~ this would have made his trip FAR more memorable! 8)

Considering that it only gives us 11 more horsepower than a stock U.S. L24, I think I would forgo that $30,000 and spend it elsewhere! :lol:

My L24 has been rebuilt, bored out to 2.5L, and had the E31 head shaved to 10:1 compression. If I put triple Webers and the right cam on it, it would give me close to 200bhp.

Note the absence of the "wings" on the side pillars. This was a 1970 model (as shown by the rear hatch vents and vertical defroster wires) but the Japanese Fairlady Z didn't get the famed "240Z wings" on the rear pillars.
