On Saturday October 2nd, myself and 2 of Colin's friends (John and Frank) took the Red 1970 240Z out for a little photo shoot.

The story behind this shoot goes like this... Colin and I would talk about the Z and it's restoration and in the end it would ultimately lead to a discussion about a grand photo shoot of the car when it was finally finished. This summer Frank, John and I decided the time was right to do the shoot for Colin.

I've created a photo gallery with the edited final photos :

http://gallery.me.com/londonblue007#100020

We shot over 1000 photos at 3 locations and while driving the car around Newport. As I finish editing, I will add them to the gallery, so please keep checking back for new photos.

Enjoy!

- Phil B

My favorite is #4126, with the car on the water's edge showing the rear hatch vents. It's very important to me that this is a 1970 car, and those vents are the best way to display that.

This Z looks simply amazing, whichever angle you shoot it from. Too bad you didn't have a boat that day ~ you could have approached the beach with just the Z sitting there, alone.

Keep up your good work.

Frank

Very nice pictures and a tribute to Colin. Did you guys use some flash or just long exposure?

We shot with 2 Canon 580EXII Speedlights triggered with PocketWizards (RF remotes); the speedlights were running at full power. 1/250 for a shutter speed and f/13 for aperature, all at ISO100.

The lights were placed about 8 feet off the front and rear drivers side fenders, angled somewhat across the car to give as even of light as possible.

We shot this on Ocean Rd in Newport, (here : http://goo.gl/maps/1fys). For the attached photo, I am sitting on the curb across the street about at the same height as the drivers side window. We set everything up at 16:30 on Saturday, and this photo was taken at 18:13, about 5 minutes before sunset.

The other photos in the gallery were taken at various times after about 17:00 while we were waiting on the actual sunset.

Very little editing was done to these shots, really just some brightening, adjusted the contrast, sharpening and cloning out one light reflection off the rear fender I did not like :-)

Frank, John and I shot about an hour of video on Saturday as well that I am going to edit as a bit of a Behind the Scenes type video. Once I get the photos edited, I'm going to start work on that.

That looks great, nice job....for what it's about...the picture is also spiritual. I never herd it call Ocean Road, or Ave, but Ocean Drive is what everyone here calls it, but Nice drive isn't it. Was a nice day as well, you should of stopped by.....we could of put this turbo engine I have here in the 240 :P Maybe someday we can all do a fun run around Ocean drive. I like Saturday mornings, not alot of people around, (because there all hung over from partying in Newport.) I start at Kings Park. Then if it's in the evening I start from the other end and then catch the sunset at Castle Hill.....Paul Newman used to visit there. Again, great pics, and keeping Colin's Spirit alive, we miss ya buddy.

Wow.

Some of those could have been Datsun advertiZements in the '70s! 8)

I've been working on editing the driving shots. We had a Jeep Wrangler, took the roof and all the doors off and drove on Ocean Ave and elsewhere in Newport with me hanging out the side or back of the jeep shooting photos.

Here are a some of the finished ones :

Stunning.

I'd love to zee a head-on shot of this car leaning into a turn at speed, but Robin would probably have a stroke!

Better not.

Frank

Gorgeous pictures. The one from behind looks like it might have been taken on Ocean Ave (?). Perhaps somewhere near Gooseberry Beach - where I proposed to my wife? :)

Great job, fellas
