 Post subject: Brake Lights

Came home tonight ,opened the garage door and whoa the Z,s brake lights were staring brightly@me.Any ideas would be helpful. Should I pull the fuse to keep the lights from burning out.Oh 84 AE 96K driven 3K/YR

Yessir, pull the fuse if for no other reason than to save the battery.

Then closely examine the adjustment on your brake pedal.

There's a rubber stopper on the brake pedal arm that fits into a small hole. When the brake pedal has no pressure on it, it holds a small button switch down which turns the lights off. This little rubber thing likes to fall out after it ages a while and the rubber dries out. With nothing left to push the button, the switch stays unpressed, causing the brake lights to be on indefinitely.

I've had good luck replacing the rubber stopper with w simple bolt/washer/nut. Now that's not going anywhere! :wink:

It works (mine has a plastic button in it) but I'd imagine any hard material replacement will wear out the switch faster.
