Can anyone give me information re: Bridgestone oe tires on my 07 350Z? Specifically RE0050A. At 11000 miles there ain't much tread left. Is this normal?

Can anyone recommend a replacement tire. This car is rarely driven in rain and put away for the winter. I cannot speak for the original owner but this auto is not driven hard at all, now.

Thats actually not shocking, especially if the previous owner drove the car with any sort of spirit. RE050A's only have a 140 treadwear rating and are pretty notorious for short lifespan. I've managed to get 16k out of mine(370Z), but a lot of guys are toasting them in 11-14k miles.

I'm pretty amazed to hear all this. I never heard of such a short
lifespan on tires other than on actual race cars.

I remember being steamed because on our '70, I only got 40,000 miles
out of the original set of Bridgestone 175SR14's. Of course that was
way back into the last century, in fact the last millennium, when things
supposedly weren't made as well as today.

Weren't tires made of stone back then? I usually get 15K to 20K miles on a set of modern street/track tires that are lightly beat on.

Yeah, Dave, now that you mention it, they did somewhat resemble
the tires on Fred Flintstone's machine!

Yes Rick, Boomers think tires last a long time. Welcome to the Y generation. The tires on my BMW didn't last very long either and real nice sticky tires are expensive. Go to Tire Rack and select from their recommendations. Have them shipped to your tire shop. That's the cheapest / easiest way I have found to keep nice rubber on my car.

Gentlemen:
Thanks for the informative comments. the treadware listed as 140 is strictly that of Bridgestone. All manufacturers are required to come up with their own rating system. There is no standardization!
Therefore it is difficult to compare one brand with another.
As stated, I am not the original owner. With most of the wear on the outside, my guess would be improper alignment or inadequate tire pressure for the first 6k miles of it's 11k life.

I got 18000 on my Toyo proxy's before
and then just recently went with the BF Goodrich G Force tires and I agree with Dave on you should be getting 14000 to 18000 on a good set of street and track tire and thats slightly beating them up.

The information posted is actually slightly inaccurate. There IS a standardized tread wear rating(UTQG) and test to go along with it, but the rating is not set by the DOT rather the manufacturer. While they aren't a 100% accurate measure of a tires lifespan given all the involved variables, it is a very solid way to gauge what to expect.

The REs are pretty notoriously short lived, I have torn through them as OE tires on a couple vehicles and they go to poop quick. The biggest common complaint is given they short lifespan they are no where near as sticky as they should be. I hear the RE11's are better, but once the set on the car are dead they won't be coming back. Funny enough, Michelin PS2's have a rating of 220 while being MUCH stickier(and from personal experience better lifespan), but the price is a killer. Check out the Hankook V12's, great performance and a VERY reasonable price.
