Here's something you don't see every day. Probably a good thing too! Why they made the back panel so long is beyond me unless its a 2+2. It would look much better if the top matched the lines of the hardtop.

What the heck???

It actually looks pretty nice as a Targa Top, but I agree with you, it might have been a 2+2 to begin with.

I like it much better with the top down than I do with that tent over it.

Looks like a modern day Conestoga wagon to me!
(Someone might have to explain that to our German and Finn friends.)

Ein Conestoga Wagon bist.

This was the way our continent was settled. Pioneers bought Conestoga Wagons from Carl Beck back in the early 1800s, and drove them Westward across the Indian Territory to find new places to live.

This is the Conestoga Lightweight "240Z" model ~ 6 aircooled horsepower. Later models were heavier and had bigger bumpers so they had 8 horsepower. Carl can be viewed standing beside his VIN #13, the first model to leave his factory.

The whip in Carl's left hand indicates his intent to get the most out of every available horse. He still approaches his rides with that attitude today.

Notice the unique options these early models offered, such as the MaxiLight 55" staggered racing wheels and individual "tuner" bells for each cylinder - I mean horse. This was the prototype aerodynamic convertible model with "Flow-Thru" ventilation and it looked really racy with the top down. You can notice the integral rear airfoil, which added stability when running from Indians. Later improvements included higher horsepower, better brakes, side-mounted water barrels, 5mph safety bumpers and firing ports along both sides for shooting buffalo on the move.

Carl still owns this hat.

It is my firm belief that if Frank hadn't gone down the military path in life, he most certainly would have been a comic writer for a highly successful television sitcom (I'm thinking, M*A*S*H ?).

...or perhaps the seventh member of Monty Python.

Frank actually allays the sting, shock, and pain of such a distressing
scene when he interprets it in his inimitable journalistic style for our
edification and enjoyment.

As well as for our resuscitation when needed.

I found the pictures on Ebay. No mention as to whether many were sold. I would imagine not. The company was located in Brooklyn and sold the kit to bodyshops. I remember when driving my hardtop 80 280zx back in the day actually looking into the Targa option.....

Well, I notice that Aussie bloke was very cautious not to show any top-up photos from the rear of the car. And his is a 2+2.

Still looks hideous, and I never trust any company which can't spell or use proper English in their own advertiZements. Makes me feel they aren't smart enough to be trusted with my car, as if they didn't finish basic high school Readin and Writin, but they want to tear my car apart.

I would pass on this offer!

Well I guess I need to weigh in on this one too:

Top down: awesome!

Top up: ugliest looking Z I've EVER seen

Maybe they should just remove the canvas top altogether and tell customers to avoid rainy days!
