Not exactly Z related but definitely makes me want to start turning wrenches to prepare for the driving season...too bad there's rain forecast for this weekend.

Is this car too cool or what! I remember having an Aurora "Thunderjet" slot car of the Cheetah waaaaay back in the 60s. Something about that long hood and short deck (sound familiar?).

:)

I used to run a white Cheetah on my 4 lane HO racetrack in my younger years!! It was my favorite car.

I had completely forgotten about it until just now you reminded me.
(There's that dadgum memory thing again!)

I meet the guy from Florida, when he brought a car to the duPont Cars and Coffee meet one Saturday morning.

The car was pretty neat, but just a bit pricey for me... Finished {semi-finished?}.. it was around $85K... Great for short trips around town, but I don't think I'd want to drive one for more than a few hours at a time.

Too bad they launched this project into such a bad economy... they might be OK if they can hang on for two more years..

The next meet is next Sat. - I'll try to remember to take a camera.
FWIW,
Carl B.

I remember these cars when they first came out (I was a kid). They had 327 Corvette engines in them with 8 HILBORN straight-stack injectors on top. Looked impressive, and was cutting-edge technology for its day. This one seems to sport a 350 with dual quads.

I remember them running at Sebring and Riverside the same year, and tearing up the competition.

Here's a pretty informative link about the history of the 10 individual Cheetah cars Bill Thomas made:

Thanks for the walk down Memory Lane.

Hilborn, Frank.
Stu Hilborn was one of the pioneer developers of FI systems going
back into at least the forties if not the thirties.
