I spotted this on CNN.com tonight on a segment on cheap collectable cars by Hagerty. I like the original hubcaps on this car, my '76 used to have them. I remember losing one years ago and going to the local used hubcap shop for a replacement. I probably bought my own off the shelf...turned in by some kid.

If it won't open, try cutting/pasting the URL.

The link opened fine for me.

A few of our members have these wheel covers, and I remember admiring them too.

I got a spot of fun seeing the AMC Pacer listed for only $4,000! :D I owned one in the late 1970s for awhile as a second, bang-about car. It was amazingly well insulated, with an aggressive airconditioning system which could drive you out of the car and back into the blazing NC heat.

I'd drive one today if I had one. Weird little car, with one door bigger than the other, a coffee can (really) painted and used as a charcoal condenser in the fuel line, and an incredible interior which should have made Cadillac jealous. I remember it fondly.

Great to see a Z on this list except for the fact that these cars are so cheap!!! Hopefully my '78 is worth more than $5,000!!!! I know the article states that these values are for cars in "average" condition. Good thing we love to drive these cars as from an investment perspective they haven't done much over the last 30-40 years (except for the highly collectible models of course).

I knew a guy in high school with a Pacer that came stock with a 5.0 V8. He had put on fat tires, cherry bomb mufflers, etc, kinda scary.

He told me to change the spark plugs he had to jack the motor up because the heads were almost touching the fender wells. Interesting time warp.

Thanks, Bry!-- I was going to do a post yesterday but suddenly got brain
lock; couldn't remember if it was the Pacer or the Gremlin that you
could get w/a 304(?) V-8. Maybe both of them?-- time to dust off some
of the old books and look that up!

P.S., how are the wife and baby? 2 months now?
