Go to the Z Car Home Page - look in the "History Section" - then under Pace Cars.

SEE? I keep telling people we had a really hard financial recession in the 1970s, but they don't listen ~

Imagine buying a brand-new 1972 240Z Pace Car for $1.00!!! 8)

I really like your website, Carl.

Thanks Frank/Scott:
Other than the actual OMS Pace Cars that were Z's - so far I have only found one of the 50 replica's. The owner is presently restoring it. I hope to have a follow-up article about that car at some point in the future.

The pictures of the 50 OMS Pace Car Replicas that I have on the Z Car Home Page - were from my files when I was working as Sales Manager for Jaremko Datsun/Fiat/Saab in Spokane, Washington circa 1972/73. They were part of the Press Release Packages that Nissan Motors sent to all the Dealership Sales Force. Wish I had kept more of that stuff.....

In 1973 when I moved to Florida - the unemployment rate here was 14%.

FWIW,
Carl B.

Wow :D Carl your site is remarkable. I never navigated around on Z home before nor did i realize that the site was yours. I had googled datsun race images and the 50 z picture was one of them that came up.
Through looking in your site under pace cars found that same image along with the info on that photo. The track is in California and the event was held before a 500 mile race. Again an awsome site and You are a real Icon of knowledge on these awsome Z cars, Thank you for being you and putting together such an informational site.

*WARNING* *WARNING* *DANGER* *DANGER* *ACHTUNG! ACHTUNG!* (Klaxson horns sounding, bells ringing):

Reading ZHome.com is highly addictive. You can get lost in there for days without coming up for air. NEVER read ZHome alone ~ always read with a qualified friend who recogniZes the symptoms of obsession, dehydration, starvation, and irresponsible tardiness, and who has the physical strength to overpower you and take your computer away if necessary to save your life or help you meet life's mandatory obligations.

ZHome should be read ONLY under a closely-scrutiniZed regimen of self-discipline or adult supervision. School-aged children should not read ZHome until summer vacation or during week-long school absences due to blizzards, floods, etc.

Until such time as ZHome has been condensed into a portable book, this warning shall remain in effect.

Frank, you are too much. You are also very accurate in your
assessment of the ZHome. I plead guilty as charged, nolo contendre.

BTW my vision must remain poor despite the surgeries of the
past couple of years. I can only count 37 to 39 in the picture.
Wish Carl could find them, I think I could come up with 39 bucks,
even all 50 bucks if I tried real hard.............

The Z history would not have been written - without Carls "zhome".
A fantastic performance. Frank I agree with you. I also have spent nights in reading the site.
On Friday the german "Autobild", the biggest car and automotive magazine in Europe published an article about my Z import. I will post it here when I've found someone who has a scanner....Carl is also mentioned!

Thor

Hi Guys:
Thanks for the kind words related to the Z Car Home Page. It has been a lot of fun doing the research and publishing the information to share with others over the past 15 years. Of course many of the articles have evolved over time as more facts were found, corrections made and additional information added. Unlike hard copy books - correcting errors and making edits for the sake of clarity are easily made. Too bad we can't do that with the books and magazine articles that have been published over the years!

I just put an article about the One OMS Pace Car Duplicate that we have located, up on the server. So if you return at this point to the Pace Car Article - you will see a new hyper-link below the picture that started this thread.
The direct URL is: http://zhome.com/Racing/OMSDuplicates.htm

It's another interesting "barn find" at the very least...

FWIW,
Carl B.

Hi Thor:
That is GREAT NEWS - I can't wait to see the article!! Nice to have a DATSUN 240Z featured in "Autobild" for the 40th Anniversary of the Z Car !

Of course we'll have to get Frank to translate it as well

kind regards,
Carl B.

I'm working on it in my spare time. I'm at the bottom of page One so far. I will publish the whole translation at once when I have deciphered it.
