Got my recent issue of the mag in the mail today and it has a great writeup chock full of pics of Kathy and Ricks little #13 car in it, very nicely written article, even a pic with the car, Frank and Rick all together, was hoping to see our club group shot but it must have been dropped on the cutting room floor. What a sucky winter day it was yesterday, 40 mph wind and even the cover on my 85 was hanging off the car by it's bungee cord, at least the wind stopped today and 25 degrees actually felt like a heat wave, started my Z for the 1st time in at least a month, cranked slowly but fired right up, Spring is just around the corner and soon enough we'll get our cars back out again and pick back up where we left off in the Fall..... Rick, get that little baby of yours up and running so it can get back off the porch and run with the other dogs again ...

Can't wait to get my copy!! Not sure why they did not include one of the unveiling group shots. Seems to me the event was of significant enough to get a photo included in the article.

I managed to scarf up about a doZen copies of this issue from two Barnes & Noble bookstores. (They don't intend to carry them after this issue  ).

Our story got the cover, two shots on page One, a nice blurb by the Publisher on page Two, a CENTERFOLD on pages 24-25, many detail shots btwn pages 26 - 30, and a nice shot of proud Rick Morgan standing beside the car. In the text, ELEVEN of our members are mentioned by name, including Phrog, Phil Parent, Carl Beck, Jimbo Frederick, Bryan Little, John Taddonio, Prezident Ross, Bob Sharp, Rick and Kathy Morgan, and me. The Club got some good publicity in this issue and I'm trying to figure a way I can cut all the pictures out to make wallpaper for my den

I took a few copies to Rick and he was quick to note that NISSAN SPORT was honest enough NOT to touch-up any of the photos, but to show the car exactly as you all saw it at the 2nd Annual CTZCC Z Car Show in Middletown this past September ~ which means "AS FOUND".

When NSM's professional photographer Steve Rossini traveled to CT to film Lucky #13, he also felt the allure of a 'Barn Find' patina would appeal to more readers, than if we had spent a day (or three!) cleaning the car up before filming it. He was right. There were still spider webs in some corners of the engine bay on the day Steve shot the car ~ and he gladly filmed them!

One of the coolest statements in Merlin Blackwell's story says, "Gone for him (Rick) are the days of being a quiet Z enthusiast and collector. Overnight, Rick Morgan has been thrust into the limelight as the keeper of a national treasure".

And I like the quote from their conversation with Carl Beck (who traveled all the way from Florida to see #13 unveiled in September): "Being THE FIRST matters. The first Ford Thunderbird....sold at auction this year for $660,000. Any other '55 Bird in the same condition would sell for perhaps $125,000. (The 240Z) is one of the ten most-important cars in US automotive history. It changed....the perception of Japanese cars...to world-class quality and value".

I'm so very proud to have Rick and Kathy as members of our Club, and to have Lucky #13 among our carz.

Thanks, Phrog, for listening to Rick and Kathy when they stopped to admire your 280Z back in August! If you hadn't been paying attention, Lucky #13 might still be hiding, and we might still not know the Morgans!

I really love this Club!

Frank

If anyone has any extra back issues, or any issues at all that they would
consider NOT a keeper, I would like to consider their purchase. I never
heard of SportZ or its predecessor, nor NissanSportMag, till all this fuss
about #13 began to surface. I ordered and received what the publisher
had, but it is far from a "complete collection," which is my objective.

Thanks to Chris (Phrog) for not shrugging us off as a couple of "kooks"
that day (Aug 10). Thanks to Frank for his sense of "what if?" Thanks
for his, Bryan's' and Phil's being interested enough to take the time to see
if maybe "IT" was "for real." Thanks to them also for "getting the ball
rolling" once it was found to be so. And thank every one of you that
Kathy and I have been blessed to meet, be encouraged by , and interact
with over the past 4 months. You are a wonderful group of people whose
friendship we are looking forward to enjoying for many years to come. I
feel sorry for anyone who owns or is interested in Z Cars that hasn't yet
joined this Club. They don't know what they're missing, but each one of
us can help them overcome that by a simple invitation and a little
salesmanship!

For Kathy and I to say "Happy New Year" to all our friends in the Club
just seems so shallow. But it's a good start!

I consider each of us blessed to know you two. You and I have discussed a lot of "what ifs" and "if nots", and one which we never discussed was "what if we found it really was #13", the oldest production 240Z ever made, and you turned out to be a grumpy old hermit who didn't want to share it with the world??? :x

Instead, each member of this Club now has a new Z Brother, who shares the same enthusiasm for these carz as we all do, AND has more years of knowledge and experience with them than many of us can claim.

Your carz may be a national treasure, Rick, but your friendship and membership are worth a lot more.

This Club has truly benefitted by adding you and Kathy to our rolls.

(and your carz ain't bad, either! )

Frank

Rick, I have several extra copies of early Sport Z magazines. I will have to dig them out of storage, but once I do they are yours!

I'll contact you when I find them to arrange shipment. Shoot me an email to zcarnut@hotmail.com

Awesome, I must go to Barnes and Noble, like NOW. I hope I'm lucky, if not, maybe I'll still see it from one of you guys. Snow isn't going to stop me today. O Tom, you have to wrap it like this, disconnect the battery, and throw some moth balls under neath, by spring time it will be just like you left it in the fall. (that's pallet wrap, not food wrapping)

Thanks, John, that's a very kind offer on which we can confer regarding
which issues I need as well as the price. Meanwhile please just hold
them as "bait," or the proverbial "carrot on a stick," to induce Kathy,
Lucky 13, and me to come to the ZCCR event in June. (As if we needed
any additional incentives!) I.E., reciprocating for the support you and
your officers provided us, and the CTZCC, at the Sept Car Show is the
very least we can do. I believe that supporting and encouraging one
another is a significant part of what the Z Fraternity is all about.

Happy New Year and All Z Best,...................Kathy & Rick

No charge my friend, they are yours. I moved in the fall of 2008 and am still searching boxes! I'll find them shortly I am sure.

The dates for ZCCR's "All Japanese Classic Car Weekend" are FRIDAY JULY 9 to SUNDAY JULY 11. PLEASE put us on your calendar, we would love to have you and Lucky 13 as our special guests. Hemmings is tentatively planning to do an article on the "Hawaiian Zs" (mine, Frank's and Shawn's) at the car show, I'm sure #13 would be a great sidebar.

FRIDAY kickoff party/SATURDAY All Japanese Classic Car Show/SATURDAY evening dinner/SUNDAY Road Rally to Watkins Glen International Raceway for LAPS and LUNCH!

How can anyone NOT want to be part of that??? :D

Talk to you soon!

JT

PS- Still haven't got my copy of Nissan Sport, can't wait to see it!
