This is one of the 3,000,000 East German "Trabants" in a rally against "real" cars. If I had to listen to the open exhaust note of that 2-stroke, three-cylinder engine for more than 5 minutes, I'd probably get out and walk.

Of interest are the times 3:20-4:13 on the timer.
I don't see anything at 5:38

Frank

Crisp shifts, tight lines, a WONDERFUL sounding L28 and a dancing "G-Force Meter" make this one of my favorite videos.

Sebring Florida track day, pushing a 240Z with an L28, triple Mikunis.

He seems to drink 1/3 tank of fuel in 7 minutes. Just listen to this 1971 240Z sing the "Z" song!

Come on - get with the program, for the ultimate in hot rides from the former DDR you want the Wartburg.

Same Trabbi motor, more weight, and hideously ugly.

Hahaha!

They even have a TOURIST model!!! :D Adds more weight! And has a great backup light.

This is a fine example of just WHY there are laws against sleeping with your first cousin:

Whoever it was at Mercedes who strayed outside his vows should be SHOT for this.

*(And I LOVE the stirring background scenery. Goes right well with the car  )

And here's the Sales Demo video for the 2010 model:

Now THIS is what a REAL two-stroke three-cylinder engine should sound like! I grew up surrounded by these, and I still consider them to be one of my happiest memories of the 1960s. Rode to school in one many times, when all other cars were stuck in the deep snow and we were the only vehicle moving!

GOODBYE, SAAB. You are underwater as I write this, with no obvious buyers to come to your financial rescue. I, for one, will remember you with a smile and miss the music of your past Rallye days, when you and the Mini Cooper S showed the world the advantages of front wheel drive.
