The "who's going to pay for it and where's it going to be stored" aren't
even an issue, that's for me to do. I just have to make up my mind if I
want to go the $300 before the other guy snags the wheels and carbs.
I'm pretty sure I would, as long as I take care of Vinny first. But I
don't want to tip my hand too early so I can keep some wiggle room....

Don't anybody destroy this thread, I need to keep track of who asked
for what part and in what order. I can't even remember what I had for
breakfast this morning!! Oh, yeah, I didn't have breakfast. That must
be the reason.

I guess if the car can be picked up cheaply, we could always have a Z stripping day with a bunch of hands and strip the car out for all of the good, might be a fun thing to do. I'm with you Rick, I didn't realize that you could get the car for so cheap and if your planning on getting it to your house I'm sure there's alot of us who would love to help you move it.
This car is 2miles from my house you just say when and I would be glad to pitch in. :) and I wouldn't want to see this thread end either. I believe there could be more parts worth taking off this car than meets the eye.
I bet all the glass might be good, and maybe the plastic panels inside the car as well. Heck if you need 300 bucks to get It I'll put up the money for ya Rick..Let me know.. :D

Another payment option would be for the people who are intereted in partz to ante in beforehand. We might could put a dent in the $300 or even cover it. Still no word on the title tho...

If it's being parted out, is a title needed other then to prove ownership?

I believe the title is needed for when bringing anything to the scrap yards then again I could be wrong.

I have a call into the owner regarding the Title and Registration, it take a little time to get answers back. Told him there might still be possible interest in buying the complete car for $300.00

From the CT DMV website:
"The State of Connecticut no longer requires title certificates for vehicles manufactured prior to 1981. In order for you to register the vehicle, you must have a Supplemental Assignment of Ownership (Q-1 form) and a copy of the last registration certificate. You must show continuity of ownership from the last registered owner to you."

Yeah, but that's referring to title and registration for a car you intend to drive. We're talking about what to do with the carcass after we're done stripping it. CT junkyards require a title or registration for the vehicles they take in, to prevent Chop Shops from stealing cars, stripping them down and then disposing of them at junkyards.

It doesn't totally prevent theft, but it complicates it a little.

Paperwork should accompany any car you buy, even for partz. If you buy a car without papers, even in good faith, you could get into trouble. If the car is stolen you can get burned in this state for receiving stolen property. Then when you try to get a junkyard to take the bones, they'll laugh at you and tell you to dig a hole in your backyard and roll the shell into it.

OK looks like the owner has the Title!...He has to locate the keys, are the 73 keys the same as a 70? I sent him a photo of Colin's key for reference (key number deleted).

Below the note from the owner....

Hi,
Yes, I have the title. What does the key look like? Is it single or double sided? Are the door, trunk and ignition keys different? I know I have at least two sets - I'll start looking.

Yep ~ that's a doorkey or a hatchkey. The ignition has a square head. They're all double-edged.

The 1970 keys were unique. Two separate keys for ignition (oblong head) and door/hatch/glovebox (rectangular head). They were cut single edged.

The series two cars began one double edged key for all (round head as shown).

FWIW

Hmmm...interesting about the keys (I guess this thread is going a little off topic...but...). That key pictured is from my 10/70 #11137 Series I, and it operates the door locks, hatch lock, and ignition. Perhaps the previous owner re-keyed the car? Or did later Series I cars have the (rounded) one key for all?

Cheers,
Colin

Colin, I would guess that your car was re-keyed at some point. As far as I know, the one key system started with series two cars and later (from 1/71).
