No pigs, but I spoke at length with the original owner. He told me that he had taken the Z to a friends house where there was a goat. They had been having a chat when they turned and saw the goat standing on the roof of the Z! He said the roof had required a repair from that incident.

Dave ~ your early list showed a need for vent emblems, but I already see them on your car (???)

BTW, congratulations for exceeding more than 1,700 hits on this thread!

Hey, Dave!-- Rick here.

For some reason I never noticed the rims before; must have been
distracted by the Webers or the work-in-process, or something.
Are those the Panasports I have heard about? (They probably were
discussed somewhere, but I can't find it.) They look so much like
my original Minilites (on the '70) that that is initially what I thought
they might be. Hope they don't get recalled for a patent infringement
as they seem to be a perfect fit (both ways) for the car.

Frank, I found a set of vent emblems that were originally from my 280Z. That's what you see on the car. However, they were quite pitted so I went ahead and ordered a new set that will be installed after I buff out the paint.

Kathy&Rick, yes those wheels are the Panasports in 16" diameter. They were originally on my silver Z and have been in storage for a few years. I love them. They are a perfect style for the car. They are close copies of the minilites. I don't think minilite patents are in force. Usually patents expire in 17 to 20 years and less if they are only design patents. Regardess, unless the patent officer is driving a Z faster than mine, he won't catch me.

Here is a better photo showing the nearly final ride height and the wheels.

Amazing job on this Z. I think you could eat off the engine bay. Very jealous. Look forward to seeing it in person.

Thanks guys, I hope to be able to attend an event with this car soon. I just let the car warm up fully and it held a perfect temp. I have a slight fuel wetness under the number 6 velocity stack. Not sure why yet. I don't have a working fuel pressure gauge yet, so my pressures could be high. I also think I might be needing an alternator or regulator. The ammeter is steady charging but spikes to zero randomly, as the lights dim a little also. When this motor was in my 280Z, the voltmeter used to jump around in a similar fashion. I may upgrade to an internal regulated like I did on my 76. There are a few squeaks and whistles when she comes off rev and back to idle. I will investigate with a stethoscope (fuel line to my ear).

The exhaust sound is about as close to a Ferrari as I may ever get. I revved her to about 4,000 rpm, and the symphony was grand. I can't imagine the goose bumps I'll get at 6,000.

Tomorrow I'll button up a few things and put her back on the ground for a driveway maiden!

Music to behold!

I am very surprised at the sound. It's just some MSA 6 into 1 headers and their 2.5" premium matching exhaust. It just uses a Dynomax muffler at the tail.

I love the sound of my MSA header and Twice Pipes, but yours makes mine sound like a truck!

Frank, I agree, I have always loved the twice pipes too. Maybe I put my muffler on backwards and that's why it sounds like this? When this motor had EFI in my 280Z, I had the MSA "Turbo" style 2.5" exhaust with the stock manifold and it sounded nowhere near this nice.

This is exactly the sound I was hoping for. I had no idea I was actually going to get it to sound like this. I mean, I bought random used headers, and then bought the only exhaust that would bolt to those headers. Pure chance.

Incidentally, I am using an old factory flywheel that was cut down to 13 pounds by Paul Ruschman many years ago. That also helps to get the snappy response.

OK back to the garage to wire in the fuel pump relay, maybe a radio, and put the car back on all fours.

She might see daylight today!
