Which car should I bring to Rhinebeck? I would love to bring both. Maybe I'll see if my dad wants to bring one up. If not, I'll bring this one and leave the silver one at home for a change.

I got to drive it on my neighbors long driveway today. Runs well as far as I can tell. I am sure I'll need to do some tweaking when it get some miles on it.

The paint needs a lot of work too. You really can't tell from the photos but there is a lot of fade/patina on the rear half. It also needs door skin work on the drivers side. It came with a nice dent in it.

All along I have been so focused on getting this car ready for Spring. Now, I am at a point where I feel I can take a breath. I want to thank everyone for the encouragement, and the words of kindness. I really take pride in my work so your comments are not taken lightly.

I need to give a HUGE thanks to Clive and Joe, my dad, and all the fine Z folks that offered parts and help. Clive and Joe, were right there whenever I discovered I was missing a piece of this 40 year old puzzle. Many parts came out of Joe's attic, and Clive's stash. It would not have been built so quickly without all the encouragement and assistance.

Here she is after a clay-bar and wax. Hagerty Insurance took her under their wings today, and she should be wearing tags tomorrow.

Still love that color. It will be interesting to see which Z becomes your favorite. :) Well done Dave.

I love how clean the car is and how great it sounds. Hopefully my L6 will come out this clean when I get to that stage.

I had bought a clay bar kit, I think it's called the "Blackfire" clay bar kit, about 10 years ago. I did the entire car in the garage last night in about 30 minutes. Then I spent another 45 minutes waxing it. Once the car is dialed in, I'll probably have my friend Harold, with a mobile detailing business, come and hit it with the professional buffing.

Dave,

It came out gorgeous. This is an inspiring build for me because of your set up. I am really looking forward to seeing it in person and hearing all about it.

Marc

I had never seen this on my previous Webers but the bottom of the velocity stacks is alway damp with fuel when I come back from a drive. Not the insides of the stacks, just the bottom seam, right where they meet the carb body.

The only thing I can think of is either some pulse reversion, blowing some fuel out of the chokes while driving, or float levels too high. I did set them to the books, and my fuel pressure is 3.5 psi. With the engine off, and the fuel pump on, there are no leaks. Only after a drive it's damp. I have no air filters right now.

Are the carbs torqued down tight, or did you leave some flex room for them to escape engine vibrations?
