No way it will be ready for the September show.

Theoretically, I coulld just drop the rebuilt motor and trans in with the stock turbo injectors and rail and stock turbo plumbing and no exhaust and have it mobile in 1 Day BUT, I'd hate myself.

It will be ready for End of Winter shenanigans, and all the Spring events and autox.

Plus I can't drive till Feb, anyway, becaues I'm a bad boy. :( -

Thanks for the look out Paul, but I kinda need money.

Anyone want injectors!

Well don't feel bad, I was hoping to have the 240 ready, being this is the 40th anniversary year. :(

A little update.

Ok, I'm posing. I don't have the money for the fuel rails or the plenum spacer, but I just refinished the manifolds and added the 60mm TB and TB spacer I had laying around.

So I stacked them up for a pic. :)

 Looks pretty convincing from here!

BTW, did you change the compression when you rebuilt the engine?

No. 9:1. I will run it @ 10PSI intercooled. Until I can get a proper dyno tune.

I love Photoshop! Why not add some air pressure release gills along the finders while you're at it?? Let some of that pressure out of the engine bay.

Or maybe louvers on the CF hood?

Don't get old, especially if you stash your Z away for several decades.

I understood every word you guys used, but didn't understand a single
thing you said. :?

I'm not quite back to the days when you had a little tiny carburetor, a
generator, a few plug wires, a dipstick, and a couple of radiator hoses
to look at under there. But pretty close........... Hmmm, nice engine
compartment. Spaghetti dinner, anyone???

What are all those cute little wheels on the front of that engine?

If anybody ever wants to have louvers punched, I have a friend who is
retired from the State, who builds hot rods and custom cars. He has a
louver press, and his work is stupendiferous (my word for terrific).

By the way, what's a Staff Sergeant flywheel?? HELP ME, FRANK!!!!

Hi Rick ~ the world has turned while you were away.

1. PHOTOSHOP is a computer program (included in most computers today), which you can use to doctor any picture into however you'd like it to look. Vagabond has doctored a pic of his Z into his 'dream car', adding some fancy wheels, a Turbo intercooler radiator in the grille, some aerodynamic opaque headlamp covers and mirrors, and a lightweight Carbon Fiber (CF) hood. He also added a wicked "snow plow" chin spoiler to keep air from shooting under the car and lifting the front end at high speed. (And maybe to plow his driveway in winter?)

2. I suggested he open holes in the fenders or louvers along the hood to let underhood pressure out, which lets the car go faster. Some folks simply use them to cool the enginebay, but their primary function is to release air pressure under the hood so the air doesn't 'bunch up' in there and present an 'aerodynamic brick' to the airstream. Owners of older Zs can simply pop the hood open onto the safety catch to achieve the same effect (and I also have louvered inspection lids on either side of my hood to help with that), but the later model Z hoods open from the front so they can't use that trick.

3. I don't know what SSG stands for, but it isn't Staff Sergeant! They are a company which builds very lightweight, very tough (probably Titanium) flywheels for various cars. They are considered 'bullet proof' and are pretty expensive. The advantage of replacing an 8 or 11lb Z flywheel with a 5lb SSG flywheel is that your engine revs up (and slows down) much quicker, so you have better flexibility in racing or hi-performance driving.

4. Those "cute little wheels on the front of the engine" are stuff our generation never had to worry about. The 3-liter Nissan V6 has twin overhead cams (one per bank) so those gears drive them. The other belt operates the water pump, power steering and alternator (like we have on our Oldschool Zs). What else is available today is an ignition system which doesn't use a distributor ~ it works off the front crankshaft pulley and is triggered by light sensors. The device senses the position of each piston and knows when to send an impulse to that individual ignitor. Each cylinder has its own 'coil'. ALSO, the 3.0 liter V6 is now fuel injected ~ you can see the open throttle body on top of the engine. As you buy larger-throat throttle bodies (TBs), you can increase the volume of air your engine gets, thereby increasing the horsepower.

And if you think all THAT is impressive, ask someone to explain NISSAN's Variable Valve Timing! We now have camshafts which advance or retard themselves as we drive, to make better power or fuel economy according to demand!

Ha' old people are funny.

The Z31 flywheel is around 20 lbs, mine new one is around 11 and recently balanced by E&G

Old people are old.

Still on the no money " mods" , so I did some more sound deadening removal. Found more rot in the cargo hold.

I'm hoping I can rent a mig welder before thanksgiving. As soon as I weld up the holes I can drop the engine back in.

Hey! What have you done to the engine? Any upgrades internally? Do you have stock cams?
