Need help identifying a car. See below question from someone at the Fall Outing. I am out of town and can't access my records. Any idea who owns this car?

Hi Ross:

Need your help for a sec. At the recent meet at your place there was a guy with a very clean 76 or 77 Silver Z and I think he was from Conn. Maybe his name was Mike but that's a long shot guess. Anyway, he has Sport Max Wheels 16 in. but the supplier, (Sport Max) tells us they'll never fit. So I know there was a sign in sheet and perhaps you can take a quick look at it. He was parked in back of me along side another Sliver Z which doesn't help all that much but see what you come up with. Appreciate it.....

This should be easy. Which one of us has 16" SPORT MAX wheels on his silver Z car?

Might be Dave C's turbo 280z from NY?

who is a member over at hybridz.org - do a search for sportmax or XXR. They had a group buy going for sportmax/xxr 16x8 wheels there. Tons of info over there about that wheel's fitment.

Cheers,
Colin

If your good, you can make anything fit. Could of changed hubs, use some sort of adapter, something. I'm unfamiliar with those rims, but maybe my thinking out loud helps.

Yup they are Sportmax rims from the HybridZ group buy. 16x8 zero offset, proper bolt pattern for the Z. They look like modular wheels but they are one piece wheels. They come in Silver Black Gold Red or Grey. Relatively cheap too. I paid $399 shipped new for all four with proper "thin wrench" tuner lug nuts. No spacers adapters, alignment rings...they just fit. One buyer reported melting the plastic faux rivets off the wheels during hard track use. No harm done except for missing rivets.

I have 225-50-16 tires on mine and my car has stock suspension with 1" lowering springs and tokico illuminas. Occasionally, under a hard left turn with a dip, the right rear tire will lightly rub the inside of the fender lip. A smaller tire or stock ride height will cure this. A fender lip roll would work too.

Note: the center caps will not fit on the front wheels without some mods to the grease caps and center caps. I just omit them.
