Was curious if anyone could share thier methods of detering mice from making homes in z cars while in storage.

I have a car tent that holds 4 cars. It is very woodsy where I live.

We rotate the cars we drive. The 260z even only after a few weeks the little buggers have been in it.

Have 2 cats and they do catch alot of mice. In the morning when I walk out on the back deck and find a mouse the cats bought home I do the happy dance.

Maybe I need more cats. :?

Could be a bumper crop of mice this year.

Tried Irish spring soap cut into pieces and spread about the 82 280zx. Put a whole bar on the center console. They pooped on the bar of soap. :x

Sprayed Fabrese in the 75 280z Have not had it out yet to check the efectivness of it.

My wife keeps suggesting moth balls. :? (but the seem too small to do anything) :?:

HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I use moth balls in old socks and spread them around the outside and under the hood. Stored the car all winter with no mice. Mom's car in the same garage got the spark plugs wires chewed by the varmits. The Z was untouched.

go buy a lot of tarps from joblot or walmart, unroll tarp, roll car on it, then wrap the car up.

I tried everything. Everything failed until I used that Hemmings two-cinderblock method. It worked immediately and none of them ever came back. You're wasting your time using anything else.

Well, you buy two cinderblocks, about $1.50 apiece. Old ones will do.

Place the first cinderbock on its side on the garage floor. Hold the second block horizontally about chest-high. Place the mouse on the lower block, then drop the top block straight down. I promise none of them will ever return.

Glad you asked.

PS ~ Oh, and Kevin, it's probably not the mothballs that keep the mice away, it's just the old socks

Hmmm. That does sound less messy than using the 12 gauge, and no bb holes to patch up.

Seriously Pat, mothballs are the way to go. To a mouse they smell like a cat. Just take care not to let them get wet inside the car.

I purchased a car bag several years ago that I think keep the vermits out. It opens up like a sleeping bag, roll the car onto it and it then zips up all around. They promote that the bags are air tight besides (not sure how a zipper can be air tight) so it supposedly keeps the moisture out too. The bag comes with 5 lbs of moisture absorbing Omni DryT desiccant that you place under the car. Here's a link to one place that sells them. Critters would have to be pretty noisy to chew through the tarp like material.

I'd like to try camping in one of those. Pat's situation is that he rotates cars. If he has 4 of them, that would be about $1200 for the bags, then he'd have to open one of them each morning before work.
With my luck I'd chose a car, open the bag, and find some homeless guy living inside
Wonder what one of those car-socks weighs?

Frank T

(PS maybe you could just stuff one of them very full of mothballs, then leave it near the garage. The smell would keep mice, neighbors, cats and relatives away).

Moth balls on the inside, cats on the outside. Heavy duty tarp and pallet wrap.

EXCELLENT! It needs a big red bow on top of it and to get put under my Christmas tree.
