Hello all,
I'm new to this forum, but have been a memeber of TT.net for quite some time. I have a 90 TTZ, just about all stock except for a JWT pop and gutted pre-cats.

Last night it seems like my Z developed a large boost leak. After work tonight I am checking for codes but there is no CEL. It starts, idles choppy, but will hesitate very badly if I try to hit any boost.

I don't have a compressor or a boost leak tester, if anyone in CT would be willing to help me find (what I believe to be) this boost leak, please let me know ASAP. Obviously I will drive to you!!!

Thanks in Advance

RDZ, are you guys copying this?

300ZMang, we have lots of guys in here who work on this sort of stuff and they check the website almost daily. Hang tight 'till one of them bubbles to the surface!

In the meantime, please introduce yrslf in our New Members Intro Forum and post a picture or three of that 300Z!

Z ya!

300zmang,

My name is Rich from RDZ. We can provide a boost test for you. and cure that nasty power robbing leak(s).

This is very common for the 300zx Z32

shot me an email and we can find a good time for both of us. Rich@RDZ300.com

Hey Rich, this is Matt (you did my clutch last summer).

Don't think it's a boost leak anymore. Now it won't rev passed 2500 RPMs even if I have it floored. Not getting any codes from the ECU, no CEL, no smoke, no nothing. It idles ok, not as good as it could, but the RPMs increase smoothly right until 2500 RPMs, then it hits a wall.

Clogged cat? MAS on its way out? Any ideas?

This is no time for this S*$^ to be happening.

Thanks Rich

O.K. it hits a wall. Could be the TPS (throotle position sensor). Testing is for volt output at WOT (wide open throttle) it should read above 4 volts. closed it should read .45-.50 v.

Check fuel pressure, maybe change fuel filter.

If you can get to the backwoods bash this weekend I can look at it and plug in the computer.

Rich

My dad is shipping me another MAF I had from an old Z, it's getting here tomorrow. I'm going to swap that in quick and keep my fingers crossed. I don't think I will be able to make it to the Backwoods event, therefore I don't think Rich will be looking at it. I will keep you posted if it's fixed, because then you probably won't have (want) to come help me out.
Thanks again Agner

Sounds good. Hope it works for you (that way I can finally start working on mine, lol). But if it doesn't I'll head down there on Saturday.

Hey 300ZMang,

Not that I could trouble shoot anything this complicated, but I'm curious....exactly what does the engine do when it hits 2500 rpm? Stall? Sputter or buck? Just "burble" along at that speed, as if it had a governor?
Or does it sound as if it's "running out" of something (spark/air/fuel)?

Just trying to learn something new.

MAS is easy to change so go ahead and do it, but it is most likely not the problem. Usually when it goes the effect it felt across the entire band not at certain points.
Check that TPS
It fits your situation better

It was the MAS!
installed my other one last night and now she purrrrs again.
FrankT if I were just sitting in my car, if I floored it the RPMs would NOT go passed the 2500 RPM marker. It would hit it like a wall then just bounce up and down right there. If I were driving, and hit the 2500 RPM marker, it would do the same, putt putt even if floored. It was horrible, but I'm glad I was able to fix it for $20 (shipping of my old part) vs. $480 for a new one!
Thanks to all for insight.
Maybe I can hit up Backwoods, would love to make it!

Matt ~

Wow! I'm really glad you got it running again, and I can just imagine your response when it first hit 3000 rpm!
Glad also that the guys in here could help you ~ that's what a club is all about.

SO NOW ~ how about sticking around with us? Please take the time to join us and post a brief story about you and your car in the New Members Intro forum (or even about how RDZ came to the rescue) and post a few pics of the car - now that you can get it to the carwash!!

Hope to meet you soon and maybe you'll enter that beautiful Z car in our show on 19July?

Z Ya Later!
