LOL Rick, I'm happy the photos of #13 and 171 are going to good use!

You could also have used this grouping of #13 and 171 that I organized for Nissan Sport magazine of the September show.

...or this group taken at your house in August!

I started to work with Bob DeKorne of the Hagerty Insurance Agency about around the mid 90's. When I started the "Z Car Original Owners Register" for original owners of the Datsun 240Z, on the Z Car Home Page.

At that time not many of the Classic Car insurance agencies were writing agreed value policies and if they did they would not put much of a value on the 240Z's. I had Classic Car Insurance on my 72 Ferrari, 69 428 Super Cobra Jet Cougar Eliminator, 70 SS 396 El Camino, 67 Corvette. Because of its limited production and Special Interest Car status, I they also extended coverage for my 91 Thunderbird Super Coupe. I was very happy with the Hagerty and wanted to work with them on assuring proper coverage for the Z's as well. I called Bob and he was more than willing to listen to my case and then to work with me on the Datsun 240Z's.

The Original Owners were somewhat a special case - they simply wanted Agreed Values that would assure that if anything should happen to their 240Z's - the coverage limits were high enough to assure that the car would be properly repaired rather than totalled.

I explained the situation to Bob and he in turn took it to their underwriters and they agreed that if someone had the car for 20+ years - they felt that the market value or replacement value most commonly cited - would not really "replace the car"... so the Agreed Value limits were significantly raised for us. No one wants to over-insure a car, especially the underwriters - nonetheless the the Hagerty worked closely with us and later I kept in close contact with them on the values of Collector Quality examples as well.

Long story made short - most of the Original Owners signed up with the Hagerty and today they have over 600 Classic Z Cars insured.

If you have a clean, well cared for Datsun 240Z in admiral condition over-all - - trust me -- you can not replace it for less than $16K. Even then you might spend a year looking for one at that low a price. That would be a #3 Condition car...
See: http://www.zhome.com/Buying/OldCarsPriceGuide.htm for the Definitions..

Frank - if some moron ran a red light and T-Boned your Z - - - IF you could find another 240Z with a good body, that ran well {which is getting very hard to do} - it would cost $10K to $12K right off the bat. Then to put it in the true overall condition of your car - you'd easily spend another $5K to $10K to get there. The Agreed Value on your Z should be at least $20K....

I had a claim with the Hagerty a few years ago a 5 mph bump to the rear of a Ford Expedition took over $5K to properly repair (hood, front bumper, parking light, head light bucket, center and right lower valance panels - all replaced with NOS parts) - all I can say is that the service was amazing.

FWIW,
Carl B.

Thanks for that, Carl ~ your endorsement means more to me than some others' might.

But you're wrong, my friend.

If some moron ran a redlight and T-boned my Z, I wouldn't have to deal with the insurance company ~ I'd be in prison.

Thanks for bailing me out, John (sorry, everybody).
Somehow I omitted to provide that in my earlier input
despite providing the 800-number.

FYI, I was surprised to find out that my local Allstate Insurance agent also carries Hagerty insurance polices. If and when I make the switch, I plan to compare his rates with that on the web site.

I'm leery of Allstate, Phil. My sister had Allstate for years and gladly
had their Good Hands out for her premiums. Then when one day she
filed a claim, they didn't want to know her. Their Good Hands tightly
and firmly clutched the premiums she had paid in for years. And if I
remember correctly they wanted to terminate her; maybe did.
