Wow! A DB-4 GT  One of my favorite cars.

Does anyone know which engine the Allard had in it?

Frank

CLIMB EQUINOX IN A LOTUS-18

At the end of the 1950s Formula cars (inspired by Porsche and Auto-Union) moved their engines from ahead of the driver to behind him. It revolutionized the entire industry.

Many cars entered new mid-engine creations, and in 1960 Colin Chapman produced this legendary Lotus-18, a reclined-driver mid-engine simple chassis 'cigar tube' with open wheels. The revolutionary, record-setting car weighed about 1/2 ton and could accept three different size engines; a 2.6L for Formula-1, a 2.4L for Formula-2, and a third 1.5L for the hot Formula Junior (FJ) class, which had recently been formed to teach new Formula drivers how to race. FJ rules required the cars to be made using car parts from existing street cars.

Here's an early-'60s Lotus-18 Formula Junior (the 'weakest' engine offered) tearing its way up Equinox in 4:42 minutes, about 10 years ago. In just 4 short years the Lotus-18 morphed into Jim Clark's all-conquering F-1 Lotus-21 of the mid-'60s.

I believe the Allard has a 331 cubic inch Cadillac V8.

That DB-4 GT is the real deal and worth millions. The owner drives it from his home in western CT to the event, races and drives it back.

Nice video, same driver as the #1 Lotus this year. As of this year, the road is pretty much all new pavement and smoother than in that video. The past few years the top 1/3 was a total mess and downright treacherous. Much improved now for the body and car.

Any ideas on how to search SCCA archives to see if a 240Z raced the hill in the early 70s? Sounds like we could get a few cars to run it next year.

I'm working on that, but don't let that stop anybody else from searching too.
First person to come up with the correct answer gets free piZZa at all our future meetings! 8)

Well, I spoke with a bunch of VSCCA people over the past 2 days and they all pointed to one guy; James D. I called him many times but can't catch him near his phone. I suspect he's probably at LRP for this upcoming extravaganza. If anybody else wants to try to catch him, feel free. (845) 635-237three.
We just need to know how to find out if any 240Z raced the Equinox uphill under SCCA rules before 1973. I'll be away for the next 5 days and won't be able to pursue this, but someone else can be a hero. Thnx.
Frank
