Project 530Z update:

Paint done! Now I’ll let it sit for a couple of months and start the wet sanding and buffing process over the winter. Then reassembly of the lights, air dam, spoiler and bumpers. I always wanted an ORANGE S30, now I have one!

The 240Z will swap spots in the garage in about two weeks and begin it’s winter sleep. But the company it keeps all winter will be fantastic.

Stay tuned!

Will have the normal round “Z” emblems on the sail panels. BRE stripes in black on the front fenders with the DATSUN script. Hood emblem will be a round S30 style “Z” instead of the normal Datsun style.

That’s it.

I would consider using a 1977 silver dollar as the hood ornament, to infer all the cash you're pouring into this wonderful car! 8)

Actually, by doing most of the work myself, it’s not been too bad! Not only did I get a rewarding education, I’m still MUCH less than the cost of a new Z! By a LOT. :D

It’s that time of year! The 240Z winterized and tucked away until Spring. It swapped places in the garage with Project 530Z so I can spend the off season wet sanding and buffing it to a respectable finish. Can’t wait until spring to set the beast loose! Enjoy your driving off season friends, updates will continue.

Project 530z update:

The last time she was on the road, 36 years ago! Come Spring, this “little” change under the hood will have it tearing up asphalt better than ever. Can’t wait!

Currently wet sanding the paint with 1000 then 2000 grit sandpaper then buffing to a shine. Stay tuned…

Well, you've doubled the horsepower. Can't wait for its debut at Watkins Glen. I'm confident it will easily over-drive street tires.

Oh yeah. I’m sure there will be some Mickey Thompson street radials in my future!

Decided to start the wet sanding and buffing process with the hood, less to do over if I screwed it up! Fortunately so far so good.

Here’s a shot of the hood half done with the buffing process. More to go but pleased so far!

Project 530Z update:

Finished the wet sanding and buffing process on the hood. I decided to do my first attempt at it EVER on just the hood, less to do over if I screwed it up! Fortunately I did not! It actually turned out pretty good with a nice shine. Sure there is some orange peel still and some minor defects, but it still looks better than most!

Next, on to the body, one section at a time.
Stay tuned!

Project 530Z update:

Half done with wet sanding. One good thing about getting up close and personal with the paint is to see the small defects that are missed from 10 feet away. This will allow me to correct those spots in the same manner as painting the entire car, albeit in a much, MUCH smaller spot.

Next, on to the passenger side, remounting the hood and buffing. Stay tuned !
