Hey Z folks!

Is anybody up for a quick fun run this coming Monday, March 9th? I was thinking meeting for coffee somewhere mid state (CT) as the forecast looks good with temps in the 60's. Let me know if you have a favorite spot to meet. I was thinking meeting somewhere around 10 or 11 AM.

Cheers!

Grand idea and I know there are several people just drooling to get their Zs back out of the hibernation den.
We should meet somewhere mid-state, so it's a nice ride for everyone but still close at hand in case any of us have to push the cars home.
Somewhere around Middletown, maybe?

Sounds like Fun but not for me, I am deep in a zoning issue here and Monday is a big meeting I can not miss. :?
Also I am unsure of how the 280z has wintered as it is in Saybrook this year.
The 300zx is not available till the last Saturday of April because it is in storage.

I'm up for anywhere. FM6 can't make it so if nobody from up north joins,we can pick a place further south or west .

How long does it take to reach that reservoir you showed me?

Frank,
We may want to stay further south to avoid the residual sand and salt as that area near the reservoir recently had more of a wintery mix than we did down state.

We could meet at the "Heavenly Donut" again and I can take you to a cool 50's style drive-in in Bethel. Maybe even swing by Jim's shop in Beacon Falls afterwards  . I know he's working on some nice cars right now.

Well for those interested, this will be a short trip for us southern CT Z folks. We will be gathering at the Sycamore Drive-In in Bethel CT at around 1 PM. Afterwards we have tentative plans to visit Jim Kinsella's shop in Bethany CT that afternoon.

Cheers!

The Monday morning fun run complete plan almost came together... I arrived late at the Sycamore, no Z's in site, OH crap... I missed them. Talked to a couple of fellows who were hanging out, said that they had not seen any Z's. I was on a narrow time window, hung out for awhile, of course I didn't have any phone numbers. My time was up, so I headed out. About a block away a familiar lone blue Z was headed toward me in the opposite direction.
Yea, Frank and his wife made it, John had broken down with some electrical gremlins. Frank, like any great Marine went on to complete the mission and attack some cheese hot dogs at the Sycamore...
Frank, sorry I couldn't stay longer....
John you will have to fill us in on... "what happen"!
Some photos below.

Darn!

Sorry I missed your gathering at the Sycamore :( . The Z quit on me short of the destination and I had to have it flat-bedded back home. This is only the second time in 49 years I have had to have the car towed.

Nice pics of the Z's out front Colin!

I'm still working on my Z issue. Changed the coil, points and condenser and she started up fine but it still quits after a few minutes. I'm still suspicious of the ignition system though and will change out the ballast resistor tomorrow. I still have to confirm that I'm getting no spark or weak spark when it quits. If she still sparks, than on to the fuel system.

More to follow :?

Well it's probably in bad taste to brag, but I had a fabulous time today. The weather was perfect; it was a great day to be a Z. Met with John and he led us up the river road; light traffic, perfect views of the water, just a wonderful trip. Just as we went across the top of the dam his car began smelling strangely, then quit a short distance father on. John picked a perfect landing field for an emergency landing and we examined his car for about 40 minutes.

Spark was weak at the plugs; hardly tickled me. By the time we isolated the coil there was simply no secondary ignition voltage at all. I bemoaned the fact that I walked right past my emergency box of spare parts to reach the Z today; I have a spare coil in there and we could have swapped it out.

John insisted I go on ahead and find Colin if he was still there waiting for us. Colin and I passed each other going opposite directions and I saw him turn around. I found the Sycamore 1950s restaurant and Colin pulled in right beside me. He had waited for us as long as he dared put off his day's obligations, so we just sat and talked briefly before he had to leave. I pigged out on some cheese dogs, French fries and a milkshake. Cool place to which I will return in the near future. I took home some outstanding car photos and sketches from Colin, which are my prize possessions of the year.

My trip home was uneventful except for all the waves and thumbs-up from other drivers. I got to put 150 miles on the car in perfect weather and nothing fell off.

Guyz, I really want to do this again soon. Others should consider joining us as well. Thanks, John and Colin, for my excellent day! I got to see both of you and you didn't! :D

Oh, for the love of Mike! I missed this one. I gotta cut down on my naps!
I have to pay more attention to the CTZCC site.
I did have baby out a bit, one day with the top down. I had to pick up our grandaughter at Cheshire High after lacrosse workouts. She had a grin from ear to ear. I had to draw the line when she asked me to lower the volume on my Doyle Lawson bluegrass CD.

Hope to make the next fun run!

Alan

I have now verified that I have a working car (the 75) in Old Saybrook.
So the next time I can participate.
