I understand there is a Z Cluster at Lake George scheduled for the second week in September. Does anyone have any actual Intel on it?

  Then a successful show is assured. I have my motel reservations up there already but will leave Sunday before they award you the big trophy.

I will leave tmrw (full moon on Fri/13th, what could possibly go wrong?) and stay the weekend there. I am taking a rental car because I couldn't find anyone to fix my Z exhaust in time.
This has been a trying Z year for me. Hope to relax and enjoy the first Z-Concours in automotive history at Lake George.

Greetings from Lake George, the smallest big resort in the Eastern USA. Many CTZCC members and their families here (about 12 of us) and the competition for tmrw's Z Concours looks promising for our guyZ to bring home some Gold and Silver unless others are hiding their big-guns in closed trailers.

Weather was somewhat sketchy today which resulted in fewer than 2 doZen Z cars (of all years) appearing on the field for the general car show. The Concours cars were ineligible for appearance today; they are the frosting on our Z cake for Sunday.

Saw members from Rochester ZCCR and a few Canadians as well. Also saw a few 240Zs parked around the outside of today's show which shoulda/coulda been included in the general car show itself but weren't.

Tmrw is the big day. You might consider a 3hr drive up just to look around; the season is basically over so there are plenty of open motel rooms now.

As an added bonus, all the summer staff in the restaurants and motels are gorgeous multi-lingual 20-something college girls from many countries around Europe, whose summertime J-1 work visas expire in 2 weeks. They realize they must return to their native countries in just 14 more days and many have fallen in love with America. My heart has stopped at least twice since I got here! 8)

What a fabulous time we had today! The weather was perfect, the cars in each class were stunning, and the atmosphere was pure fun. We got plenty of photos and lots of stories, which we'll share when we get home. For now we're all tired, sunburned, overfed and happy, and need a good night's sleep for the drive home tmrw. Congratulations to our relatives at the Z CAR CLUB OF New England who took home top honors in the hotly contested 240Z category. Full details and photos in the next few days.

Can't do much about the size of them, sorry.
Sunday was a perfect Z-Day and the Concours was well attended. The Zs occupied the center of the field, parked in a 'defensive circle' around the 2 eldest Zs in the country; Doc Robbins' #6 and Tom Bork's #8. Both are CTZCCmembers. John Taddonio's '70, Johnny Z's late '70 and Colin-The-Elder's early '70 claimed center stage, too.

Also in attendance (but I missed a picture of it) was the 2d of the 3 remaining "pineapple" Zs which were sold from the Datsun of Honolulu showroom in the summer of 1970. Mine is one, John Taddonio's is another, and Doc Robbins' is the 3rd. Only 4 cars were delivered to and sold by Datsun of Honolulu that year and magically three of them have traveled independently to live within 400 miles of each other, half a world away from Hawaii. No record of the 4th car's fate or whereabouts.

Then, just walking around the big field, I found many other interesting cars:

File comment: Supercharged (and proud of it) Auburn boat-tailed speedster, 1936. The passing lady was kind enough to pose with the car. The '852' on the grille means final production model; Auburn/Cord/Duesenberg closed in 1937. Flat head 8 made 150bhp with single throat carb and real supercharger (not a blower). 0-60 in 15 seconds, 120mph tops. There are many reproduction kit cars worth $90,000; this one is real, insured for $1 million.

File comment: Tucker production #44. The air-cooled (Lycoming) engines for these cars were made less than 5 miles from my childhood house in the Franklin Air Cooled Motors plant. Notice the 1930s-'40s-'50s street lamps all around the field.

File comment: 1930s Delage in French blue. This owner said he drove this car to his high school prom when he was a kid. I figured there was no sense asking him if he found a date. The Chicago couple owning that yellow 356 Porsche sat with us Z lovers at dinner that night.
