Fall is almost here and it's the ideal time for a mini cruise down on the CT shoreline where I live.

When: Saturday Sept. 29, meet at 4:30pm and roll out at 5pm sharp (rain date Sunday Sept. 30)

Where: Meet at the commuter lot at exit 70 off I-95 (easy to get to coming down I-395 or Rt. 9 as well)

Mini-Cruise: Down to the charming town of Old Saybrook to cruise the shoreline - including a drive-by of the Katherine Hepburn estate, then back up to the Old Lyme shore.

Final Stop: Meet up at the historic A.C. Petersen at Hallmark shoreline drive-in for dinner and/or an ice cream. At over 100 years old, it's one of Connecticut's oldest ice cream and clam bar joints. Large parking lot for all of the Z's and I'm sure plenty of good conversation from curious locals!

One more idea: It might be fun to alert the local TV station and/or newspaper for a public interest story. It would give our club a bit of publicity plus be free advertising for the diner - a win-win to be sure!

I'd organize everything...just show up, cruise and have Z time of your life! As long as we have at least 5 cars/drivers to confirm, we're ON! Please reply and let me know if you're in. Hope we can make this happen!

OK John and Karl, I'll mark you down as confirmed - thanks for the quick reply.
So with you folks and me, that's 3. Just 2 more to confirm and we're officially a GO!

I've contacted the Hall Mark diner (AC Petersen's) to give them a heads-up and our group is most welcome.
Just waiting to hear back from media outlets if they're interested in running a public-interest story.
Stay tuned for that.

Anyone else in?

My wife Cristina and I will attend as our first CTZCC event now that the car is sort-of done!

Look forward to meeting everyone.

Nate

Alright folks, we're officially on for the mini-cruise!

Between replies here and other Z people I know, we're up to 6 cars plus drivers/guests.
I'm really looking forward to this event and we currently have every generation of Z represented with the exception of the 260 and 370. Would love to see those as well and any and all others.

Woo hoo! Thanks everyone and feel free to put out the word to any other Z enthusiasts who may not be involved with this club or read these message boards.

Karl, Are you bringing the 280 or 300? I'm hoping the 280 to have a representation of that model.

Just got an e-mail from Joyce Ogirri, producer of WTNH Channel 8 news and she is interested in covering this event. I'm not quite sure what she has in mind as she invited me to come down to the studios in New Haven 2 days prior to the cruise but mentioned nothing about coming out to Old Lyme to actually cover the event itself. I'm waiting to hear back from her.

My question for the group is this: since I'm the new guy, would a seasoned member of our club be willing to go with me to the studios on Thursday, Sept. 27? We'd have to be there at 11:45am. I figure this way, if her idea is filming some interview-type material in the studio prior to going 'on location' that Saturday, if there is a long time member with me, questions about the club and the cars would be more expertly answered.

Nothing is carved in stone yet, but it looks like a very good chance that we could have TV coverage for this cruise!

Any volunteers?

...oh and I'm also waiting to hear back from the New London Day newspaper to see if they have any interest in running a story. Stay tuned...

UPDATE:

The TV interview is on for Thursday Sept. 27 at the WTNH studios down in New Haven. Basically it will be an interview to draw out information on the club, Z-cars and their CT connection (Bob Sharp, Paul Newman, Lime Rock, etc) and of course the shoreline cruise occurring 2 days from the date of this broadcast. It will be a live segment filmed and aired on WTNH's CT Style program which runs 12:30-1pm that day.

So I really would like it if a seasoned member of the club would accompany me to the interview. I could give the 'new guy' perspective no problem but only a longer-term member would be able to provide historical details on the club and the cars that would be interesting to the general public.

If no one steps up, I'll wing it myself but it won't be as good.

A nice side benefit is that we may have some spectators show up at the diner following the cruise as a result of seeing the broadcast.

Sammychamois,

Just to let you know that we cannot participate in this fun-run as we had hoped.
We just received word of a very good friend's passing and the memorial service is on the 29th.
If it rains, we will try to make it to the rain date.

Alan
