If your over in the Hudson Valley near Peekskill this Sunday
the 15th stop over and say hello.
Colin and I have the Z's entered in the Inaugural Peekskill Vintage
Grand Prix, they are closing down about 2 miles of public streets to
run Vintage Cars in a "spirited" driving event. The cars will be
divided into different run groups, cars will be released on to the
track at intervals so that no real fender banging/speeds can happen.
We will be on "Pit Row", the event runs from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm:

What a great idea!!! Free admission, free "car hotel" overnight parking for cars entered in the event, and all downtown shops open to host the throngs. Parking for the common folks will probably be a nightmare, and nobody says how much they will charge to let you park, but that's a small concern. Watch the short video to get a sense of what a good thing this can be.

Trying to re-arrange my weekend schedule for this on 3-day notice. Some people are going to be angry with me for changing all our plans, but like Ricky Nelson said, "you can't please everyone, so you have to please yourself". 8)

If any one is interested in being a Corner Marshal for the event on Sunday they could use some additional help. Guys to be stationed around the course with yellow caution flags and a radio.
They would prefer car guys to help. If your interested email Rich Pepe. info@peekskillgrandprix.com

Hopefully those yellow flags won't be needed!

They'll have 400,000 gearhead spectators and they have to ask for outside help? This event will help keep us NFL boycotters sane this Sunday. Sure beats watching overpaid PrimaDonna players sit thru our National Anthem.

So, do I understand the cars on the course must be pre-'67, but you can get your '70Z into the paddock for show?

Hey Frank! I hope all is well. I sent an email to the event organizer for the hell of it to see if he would let us in - that was after seeing a Fiat Bertone and a Triumph Stag listed on the site. He was excited to have us apply! I think since it's their first time putting this event together, they were a little 'loose' with the finer details. I don't think they'll let us drive at track-hooligan speeds, but it should be a good time!

Cheers,
Young(er) Colin

SO! Who attended this, and how was it? Good turnout? Safely run? Weird cars?

Colin and I had a ton of fun at the Peekskill Grand Prix, for an Inaugural event it all ran very smoothly, from a catered breakfast for drivers/family to the final "Victory Lap". Nice mix of cars from early MG's to a snarling replica Cobra Coupe. The circuit was very cool, from the middle of town, down to the Hudson River and back up to the center of Town.
Cars were divided into 4 run Groups, we got about 35-40 minutes circuit time. The run down to the Hudson had old style hay bale chicane that was fun, supposed to slow you down a bit... Along the Hudson was fun and the run back up to the center of town had a great passing area (Not that you were supposed to do that. "It is not a Race!") The center of town reminded me of the Targa Florio were most of the spectators gathered, on the curbs!
We were both told that we were going a tad beyond "spirited driving"!!!
You should have smelled my brakes after a few laps!! Trying to stay ahead of that red Z in my mirrors!
Peekskill should be very proud of themselves, Rich Pepe, the organizer, Peekskill Chamber of Commerce, the Mayor, The Peekskill Police department, all the Volunteers, the Division Street Grill, and Sponsors.
The vision to do this event, then to pull it off so smoothly, what a great achievement!

Oooo! Ooooo! Thank you for those two old Healeys! That green 100/4 is identical to my first AH; it's even missing the front bumper. Heart pounding rapidly.
A Volvo P544 (a childhood favorite; always wanted an aluminum block V6 in one of those), a Diamler SP250 Dart, a chrome bumper MGB, a really nice TR3, and is that a Triumph Stag with a T-Top??? Never saw that before. And that blue racer with white stripes and rollbar; was that a Fiat 124, maybe?

But the Zs were the best ones there, hands-down.
Good pictures, thank you.
