I have put together a scenic fun run for this Saturday, August 12th, for those of that can make this on admittedly a rather short notice. We already have some that are interested in going. Realizing that all of us may not start from the same area, we can make arrangements to meet along the route if it works out better for you. Please post your suggested meeting place so we can arrange to meet up.

I've talked with Vinny Bedini today to see if we could include him as a stop but his plate is full right now and we should try to make that another time. He will call me if things change.

Obviously if the weather does not cooperate, we can reschedule another time and post it as well. This is the proposed route and schedule.

9AM - Meet at Heavenly Donuts, RT 34W in Derby CT. (about a mile west from RT15 Merritt Pkwy)

10:00AM - Leave Heavenly Donuts, Take RT34W to RT8N, Take RT8N to RT67W in Seymore CT. (7.3M miles)

Take RT67W through Southbury, Roxbury to New Milford to RT7 (26 miles)

Take RT7N through Kent CT, pass Kent State Park, pass Limerock Park to North Canaan CT (39 miles)

11:30 - 12:30 Meet at Caddy Shack on RT7N for quick lunch, restroom, ice cream, minigolf, batting cage, or just relax. Plenty of safe parking. This is a classic little burger, dog stand with outdoor and screened in picnic tables.

12:30PM - Depart Caddy Shack, Take RT7N through Sheffield MA, Great Barrington MA to RT183N (14 miles)

Continue on RT183N to Norman Rockwell Museum (5 miles) (stop and visit is optional)

Continue on RT 183N to RT102E, pass RT7, go through Stockbridge (stop optional - crowded) to RT20E (7 miles)

Take RT20E to Beckett MA , to RT8S (7 miles)

Take RT8S through Otis, cross state line into CT to Colebrook Reservoir boat launch area (20 miles). Large parking area, nice view, restroom.

The group can disperse from here by continuing down RT 8S to RT44 E/W, or RT8N to 57E towards Agawam MA, etc.

PLEASE ADD ANY SUGGESTIONS AND LET US KNOW IF YOU PLAN TO MEET WITH US IN DERBY OR SOMWHERE ELSE ALONG THE WAY.

I hope to Z you Saturday! :D

Weather permitting I can be there by 10:00 AM as well.
I will return thru Mass though so I can save some miles.
It will take me an hour and a half to get to Derby from here. :?

Then you'd be going South to get West, Karl. Would you prefer to drive straight West and cross our path somewhere obvious?

Id prefer you meet in my driveway . . . . .

I think the ride from Derby is worth the ride to derby.

Weather looking better but it's still early to tell.

Maybe we should clarify that these directions lead us to the fabled ALICE'S RESTAURANT in Stockbridge, Mass. Several of us made this trip years ago and had a great day together, seeing all the landmarks mentioned in Arlo Guthrie's 1966 18-minute-long talking blues song.
If anyone has never seen Alice's and just wants to tick it off their bucket list together with a group of friends, this would be the golden opportunity. The drive up and back is gorgeous and just made for a Z car. Normal Rockwell's museum is there too, so you could see the originals of all the Rockwell paintings you remember from the Saturday Evening Post when you were growing up.

This trip appears to only happen every 7 years or so. Maybe this is the time you should come along?

The weather is not getting better for tomorrow, especially up north. Can anybody make it on Sunday the 13th?

Let's postpone this run for anouther day. Mother Nature doesn't look like she want's to cooperate tomorrow. Rain and possible thunderstorms are forecasted for CT and MA. :(

OK. That will give us more time to solicit other Clubbies to make sure they've had time to receive this notice and maybe travel with us. John, is your son coming in his Z? If not it might be just you and me on Sunday (weather permitting and the families agree).

You know, when the weatherman says "50% chance of rain" he's telling the absolute mathematical truth. There is always a 50% chance of rain EVERY day ~ either it will rain, or it won't ~ a 50/50 chance.

It's the likelihood or probability of rain that I'm interested in.

Frank,

If you are willing to go on Sunday, weather permitting, I will go to. My son may join us, although he cannot promise yet. He has three young girls that compete for their Daddy's attention.

I will plan to be at Havenly Donuts around 9AM Sunday unless you call it off.

I even watched the Alice's Restaurant movie today in preperation for the trip. :) Hadn't seen that movie since 1969

FYI, another movie was filmed in that area in 1967. It was called "Pretty Poison" staring Anthony Perkins and Tuesday Weld. My first steady girlfriend had a tiny bit part as a colorguard marching behind Miss Weld in the very begining of the movie! She was from Great Barrington. The factory her dad worked at was used in the movie.

Funny, both of these movies became known as "cult" flicks.
