Frank sent me my confirmation this week, also, and I've had my hotel reservations for a month. Looking fwd to this. Howard J is hoping to come with us, as are Big Al, Paul from RI and a couple others. Probably half a doZen CTZCC members going, at least. Hopefully some others will sign-on before the deadline.

Frank

Frank sent me confirmation yesterday and my sweet Suite was also booked for Fri. Sat. & Sunday for that weekend. Do these caravans usually sashay or are they movers and shakers? Sorry, itchy foot and hemorrhoids. Lol.

I like to stop every hour just so I breathe clear air instead of exhaust fumes.

Here's a live video of some of us on the way to Rochester a few years ago. You can tell we were all in a hurry to get there:

That's what happens when you're in a rush because you forgot to make your hourly pit stop

Here's a gentle reminder from John Taddonio about this event:
* * * * * * * * * * * * *

"ZCCR MOTORFEST '16 featuring the 9th Annual Jonathan Krenzer Memorial Motor Show is coming up! It's a weekend FULL of fun activities for the enthusiast, no matter what you drive!

SATURDAY JULY 9: Meet at the DAMASCUS CENTER, 979 Bay Rd., Webster NY for a 9am departure on a fabulous road rally through the twisty roads of the NYS Finger Lakes Region. Your destination? WATKINS GLEN INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY where you will take 3 laps on the historic race track in your car! Plenty of time on the return trip for shopping, restaurants, wineries and sightseeing. Meet back at the Damascus Center at 5pm for an all inclusive CAR MEET and STEAK ROAST!

SUNDAY JULY 10: It's the 9th Annual Jonathan Krenzer Memorial Motor Show at the Damascus Center, 9am-4pm. If it's got a motor, it'll be on display! Hundreds of cars, trucks, bikes, sleds and everything in between! Music, raffles, prizes, great food vendors, silent auction and dozens of vendors displaying their wares. Multi class people's choice voting for awards and special "sponsor choice" awards for distinctive categories. $15 entry fee, spectators FREE.

Registration form with complete event and hotel information is included in previous posts, above. All or part, plan now! It's gonna be HUGE.

If anyone even THINKS s/he might have fun at an event like this, s/he should come with us. We have a half-doZen CTZCC cars headed there together so far and there's always room for more. Most of us involved his year have been to previous Z Fests or Motor Fests and had such a great time, we could hardly wait to get back for the next one. The food, the car show, the camaraderie, the road trip to WGI and the laps around The Glen track in our own Zs are the great fun at Rochester; the trip up and back with 6 or more Zs together makes the whole thing double-fun.

The WGI laps are pretty fast. I got up over 90 several times, once I stopped missing shifts in the corners (sorry again, Karl  ). Karl probably won't follow me around again this year!

Frank

And here I thought you were just being cautious  . . . . . . I'll follow you Frank or pass you if I get the chance

I spent Mon/Tues in Syracuse. I drove there via Albany (highway routes all the way) and returned home via the southern route. I much prefer the scenic southern roads and light traffic, and recommend that we all drive to Rochester through the southerntier.

For those of us leaving CT, we would exit the state together from Danbury. Rte 84 would take us to Rte 17, which meanders north-westerly along wonderful rivers (including the mighty Delaware) and through wooded hills and open farmland. There are several small towns along that route which are well-worth using for our hourly stops, including Roscoe, Deposit, Homer, Marathon, and several small others. Most of these villages were built to withstand hundreds of New Yawk winters and have been well maintained since the Victorian era so bring your camera if architecture rings your bell. I saw plenty of restaurants, gas stations and a few repair places if we needed them. If we maintain the speed limit ( ), many of these towns and villages are spaced just about an hour apart. If you bring your lady with you, expect to spend some time in the many antique shops in each town. I was tempted, myself. All ice cream and beer seem to be made locally.

Rte 17 takes us north-west onto Rte 81, which takes us north to Syracuse. From there the Thruway west is best to reach Rochester. The alternative is driving thru the Finger Lakes which are beautiful, but the whole Motorfest Z caravan will spend the day driving thru there to get to Watkins Glen racetrack the next morning anyway.

Coming from Long Island (Howard J), the nearest place I can see on the map to join us appears to be the intersection of Rte 84 W and Rte 17N. While there's nothing at that intersection itself, there's a small village nearby called Middletown NY, where we could all meet up. It's about 2.5hrs from the middle of Long Island. Travel time from Danbury to Middletown NY is about 1hr.

Central NY is old Dutch, Swedish and German farm country, and the names reflect that. Just as the Southern name for a stream was a "run" (Bull Run), the Dutch name for a river or stream was a "kill" (Fishkill) (Little Beaver kill) (Big Beaver kill), so all the creeks have that name. Roscoe NY is known as the Trout Capital of the USA; more trout per pound are taken from their waters than in any other place in the country. The rivers are always full of fishermen wearing waders up to their chests, pulling in fish even as you pass by. If you bring a navigator, be sure she has her camera. Somebody will have to handcuff Paul to his steering wheel so he doesn't run down to the river and try to spend the day catching 30 trout.

Thoughts? Ideas? Questions?

Frank
