KARL!!! :D How nice of you to join us! :D
My point is it's safer and a lot more fun to travel in a herd of Zs than to make the whole trip alone and worry that something goes wrong and nobody else in the big parking lot has ever heard of your car before. Sometimes it's good to have a friend at hand when something doesn't work.

(snap) 8) (snap) Heyyyyyy.....

Looking at the map, about the first place you could join us without 'going south to get north' would be at Weedsport NY, West of Syracuse. There used to be a racecourse and dragstrip there in the '60s, not that it has any relation to what we're discussing here.
Any other route makes you dive south to meet us then climb back north. If you decide to herd up with us, I would think Binghamton would be the farthest south you would want to go. We intend to circumvent Syracuse altogether but our paths cross at Weedsport. ???

Also looking at the map, it appears John and I could leave the Orange/Derby donut shop about 0930 and be at the I-84/Rte17 intersection (the big mall) roughly two hours later. Howie and Paul, you could aim to arrive at the mall about 1130-1200, regardless which direction y'all are coming from.

If anyone has any reservations about driving classic Zs around in a huge mall parking lot, there is a Mobil gas station/convenience store just beyond there where we could take care of all the same essentials and maybe meet up more safely? It would let us dodge the mall entirely and keep everything in low-key. In that case we would all take Exit 4W off I-84, which merges us into Rte 17N. We would take the VERY NEXT exit off 17N (exit 120) and at the bottom of the off ramp, turn right onto NY-211, which is a commercial divided 4-lane blvd. The Mobil gas station is immediately on the right. Your GPS might like the address: 530 NY-211, Scotchtown NY. It's the very first right driveway after leaving the OFF ramp.

There are roughly 2.5hrs driving time btwn that gas station and Weedsport, where we cross paths with Karl. So we couldn't realistically get there much before 1430 unless we really burned it. Stopping for a bit each hour would put us in Weedsport roughly 1500-1530 to meet Karl. It's another hour from Weedsport to Webster no matter what road we took. We could all drive due North from Weedsport and turn left at Lake Ontario, follow rte 101 and 104 into Webster, and arrive together to hook up with Big Al at the hotel just in time to miss the Friday 1630 rush-hour traffic.
Ideas? Suggestions?

OK, it's been agreed off-screen that we will skip the dangerous, confusing mall and instead meet at the Mobil gas station/convenience store at

530 NY-211, Scotchtown NY 10941.

That's only two miles beyond the mall and is a lot safer. The driveway is about 200yds to the right off exit 120 and should be visible from the ramp. That's where we'll meet up and set off in search of Karl.

Great news! Paul has decided to join John and I at the Heav'nly Donuts shop, 658 New Haven Avenue, Derby 06418 and ride with us to meet Howie. Coming from the East Paul will have the rising sun to his back and be able to beat all the morning traffic. He thinks he might already be there when John and I arrive.
From there I guess we'll all follow Rte34 to I-84 in Danbury. Too bad Karl can't make it down to Dbry to meet us there (?).

Looks like we will see you at the Hotel in Webster. We were going to leave to be in between the traffic and that will put us up there atound 4 or so. We can all go to the meet up together on Friday night. 8)

Sorry we won't hook up with you on the road. Zee you at the farm sometime around 1600 if everything works well.

Looking forward to seeing you all this weekend!

The weather forecast is GREAT! Chance of a rogue thunderstorm Friday night (sorry Frank!) but clear, sunny and comfortable the rest of the weekend!

John, if you can arrange a t-storm like the one you gave two years ago, I'll be very happy :)

Actually, someday you guyz should consider a free hose and soap bucket for foreigners who had to drive 400 bug-infested miles to reach you. 8)
Maybe not.

I just checked the weather forecast for Saturday, for Webster, and it says that there's a 70% of rain in the AM and 60% chance of showers in the PM. Any chance we can borrow Ross's Weather Wand?

We can only hope for a nice shower early Sat morning, to keep the heat down for the drive to Watkins Glen. The track will be cooked dry by the time we get there, I'm sure. And after we put the cars to bed at night nobody cares if it rains on them a little. There's always road dirt to be washed off.
You're going to enjoy this adventure, Howie, and once you attend one, you'll be looking fwd to the next one.

Looks like I am meeting up with a gaming buddy from my online console gaming days before the meet up . . . so we will probably just go over there after. Known him for years and never met up before. Should be fun.

Just chiming in.....I had a close call, didn't think I was going to make it......stories for the trip,..... so if we are meeting at this donut shop, for one I hate donuts, (except when there staring you in the face,) and cheep coffee, but I'll be there, and 2, I'm coming from far away, the trip normally is 8-9 hours for me so I am leaving here early, so let me know what is early for you guys. I can leave at 4am and be there around 7am, if I left at 6am I would be close to the 9am when you guys are meeting, of course I'll have to deal with 8 O'clock New Haven traffic............so I'll probably want to leave at 4:30 am. There is also this beauty about driving a Z and having the road all to yourself and the Sun coming up behind you. Also you'll be with a New Yorker, so once we're in the State, I got your back..........Pizza for lunch anyone?
