The Z Car Club of Rochester will be presenting our annual MOTORFEST on Saturday July 9 and Sunday July 10, 2016 in Webster NY.

You know the drill, a Saturday road rally to Watkins Glen International for laps in YOUR car, a Saturday evening Cruise-In with entertainment and a Steak Roast and the Jonathan Krenzer Memorial Car Show on Sunday.

If you've joined us, you know what a blast it is! If you haven't, make 2016 your first!

More details to come shortly after the first of the year. Stay tuned!
:D

I look forward to attending my first Motorfest. Are there hotels, motels or B&B's in the area? Any recommendations?

Howard, it would be GREAT to meet you out there, or to travel in caravan with you along the way. You're going to have a great time. The PreZident of the ZCCR is also our member, and a finer man you'll not meet. The whole ZCCR crew is a lot of fun and these annual events are very popular, often gathering more than 100 cars. The Z caravan trip to Watkins Glen track itself is reason enough for the whole trip.
ZCCR usually announce a local hotel with group rates to save us some cash. They only put us up in posh 4-star locations but our stay is usually about $100/night.
I took a neat video of all the Z cars driving thru the Finger Lakes region on our way to The Glen once. I'll see if I can find it and stick it on here.
If at all possible, you should attend at least ONE of these great gatherings during your lifetime. I suspect St Peter will ask you about it during your Entrance Exam. 8)

Frank. Where do CTZCC members usually start the "Rally" to Watkins Glen? I'm not familiar with a road rally of this nature. I once ran a road rally with check points along the way to different locations that were timed but that was about forty-five years ago. I know it's a long time away and that there will most likely be more updates coming as the date gets closer. Thanks.

We don't rallye there, we just meet somewhere and cruise together in a convoy. When you're driving classic cars it's always better to join up with other classic cars to help each other out in case any parts fall off. Old cars have a habit of teaching you lessons when you put too much trust in them. 8) Sometimes it's nice to have others along who might know a trick or two to keep your Z going.

There are scenic backroad routes or faster highway routes and the people who actually make the trip together vote on which they want to take. The trip from CT to Rochester can take 6-7-8 hours, depending how often we want to stop along the way. i personally prefer the backroad routes because help is never far away if you break something. But others like the highway because it shaves hours off the trip.

It's too early to decide that now, because we don't yet know how many of us will be going or where they are all coming from. There is a fast northern route (NYS Thruway) and a great southern tier backroads route (Roscoe/Binghamton/Cortland/Syracuse) or a combination of both. If we get enough together we might wind up with two groups taking two routes.

PS ~ are you close enough to the Port Jefferson ferry to float up to meet us in Bridgeport? That might be the best place for us all to meet up.

Port Jeff is 40 miles north and east of my location and Watkins Glen is 290 miles northwest, so that doesn't seem practical. I'd probably be traveling over the Throgs Neck Bridge and then head toward the George Washington Bridge, into NJ, then........ ???

Good thought though!

Howard

We could work it out when the time comes.
In the meantime, we'll zee if we can get some answers about this year's hotel accommodations.

ZCCR PreZident John T just texted me that they are putting us up in the Holt Road Holiday Inn in Webster again this year. We've stayed there several times over the past years and it's a great location with good prices. John will give us a detailed explanation tmrw here on this thread.

This is what I received from John this morning:

"Frank, here is the info for hotel accommodations for our MOTORFEST to be held July 9 & 10, 2016.

We have a block of rooms at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites in Webster at a rate of $119 per night, first come, first served. Rooms must be reserved no later than June 9 to get the group rate. When reserving, you must ask for the "Z CAR CLUB GROUP" to get the rate.

Here is a link to the hotel for information and reservations:

http://www.ihg.com/holidayinnexpress/ho ... v=99801505

Similar to last year, the schedule of events includes a road rally to Watkins Glen International for laps and a steak roast/car meet in the evening at the Damascus Center in Webster. We are also working on a dusk "drive in" event at the Damascus showing "WINNING" or other Z/automotive movie features. Sunday will be our car/truck/motorcycle show and for the first time this year, snowmobiles will be included with a special display of grass-drag races.

Please spread the word to the club, I'll post up on the website soon".

I now have it on my schedule also. I'm with Frank on the "backroad" convoy also but either way this looks like a fun event.
