YeeeHAAAAW! Way to go, Jim! Thanks for representing us, and especially with those two beauties!
They both should have received trophies!

How was the turn-out there? And the weather?

Hey Frank,
I don't have the attendance #'s but there sure seemed to be a lot of folks. The longest tow was probably a car from CA, if not one from AZ. Lots of folks came down from Ontario; Toronto will host 2016 in August. It was as hot and humid as you might possibly imagine Memphis in the middle of the summer. The temp went into the upper 90's with a heat index of 110!!! We had a huge storm blow in Tuesday afternoon - winds 60-100 mph over the broad area. No cars were damaged as best I know but everyone got to rewash their ride at least once. The hotel sprinklers were also a pain in the butt for many cars!

Matsuo-san checked out my car while I was washing it Tuesday AM and shared some stories. I got his autograph on some things and some photos with him at the awards.

The Beale St. judged show pulled in about 70 cars, 25 were selected for re-judging. The car finished with a score of 298 out of 300 and picked up 5 major awards: 1st in 240Z Street Mod., Best Exterior, Best Engine, Best in Show, Gold Cup. It is now retired by rule from further ZCCA competition due to the GC award. Three cars were awarded the GC which speaks to the overall high quality of the entrants. I'm personally glad that Matsuo-san got to see a car of his design win the top award for the 45th anniversary.

If any of this group is also on Facebook, check out the Z Club of Texas page for photo albums of the event. I'm still adding photos so it will be a few days before all are uploaded.

My best to all in CT and hope to see you in Toronto next year.
Jim

 HOLY CROW!!! JIM, YOU WON BEST OF SHOW AND GOLD CUP!??!

298/300 is a near-impossible achievement! My wholehearted congratulations for an outstanding job well done. All the blood/sweat/tears/money and research you poured into that project really (REALLY!) paid off! You might have the very best S30 in the USA at this moment......think about that awhile. I don't know of any other S30 which scores that high.

Sincere congratulations and we're extremely proud that you're a member of the CTZCC. We're gonna brag on you something FIERCE, buddy!

Wow.

Hey everybody, let's have a standing round of applause for our Texas member Jim Arnett and his show-stopping Z!

Frank

For the sake of anyone who has joined us during the recent years, here's some background on Jim's show-winning 1970 240Z:
About 6 yrs ago he decided to restore it. He wanted to document every step he took, so he suggested to us that we open the RESTORATION AND REPAIR TIPS forum which you see so heavily-used today. That forum was Jim's own idea, and it has proven to be immensely popular, as you can see for yourself. Jim's methodical, careful project was the first entry to that forum, and continued step-by-step as he shared each and every restoration element with us. Being a Texan, he cut no corners and spared no expense. He did everything correctly, and today's Gold Cup 240Z is the result.

Here's the thread (and the Forum) Jim started back in 2009:

I do so wish we had a Smiley of two hands clapping!

I just had to throw in one of me and the car. This is at a flight training school at the airport where the ZCON People's Choice show was held. They invited anyone to bring their car over for some shots with the planes.

Hey Mike - good to hear from you. The board served with distinction and was retired with honors last year after the Texas sun had its way with it - it became significantly faded. I designed a master template for our club, laid out my own replacement board and several others for fellow club members. We've used a smaller variant of this layout for our club entries in the annual Autorama show. Here's the successor layout, just updated with ZCON results :D :

Jim, tonight we had our first Monthly Meeting since the ZCon. Our members who attended each made reports. Your car featured heavily in their stories, and when they stressed that you are our member and drew all the heavy awards (especially Best of Show), you drew loud and long applause. We're really proud that the best Z car in the ZCon belongs to one of our members! :D

it was stressed that this was your car's very first judged competition, and you swept the table of all the awards on your first time out.  The CTZCC has a lot of bragging rights, but you just added a truckload! 8)

Thanks for being one of us, thanks for starting our Restoration and Repair Tips forum, and thanks for bringing #15320 back to life in such grand fashion.

Do you still walk out to the garage at night, just to peek at it?

Frank
