This was a very nice event, and the weather cooperated the best it could for April in New England.
Some really nice Z cars showed up from both NYZCC and CTZCC, but of course we were far outnumbered by the PCA cars, since this was their event. Two of the Zs were V8 powered, which was no doubt a concern to the Porsche owners!
I even saw a Cadillac and a Mustang on the course, trying to catch the Porsches.
Dave had some bad luck (as noted above), but got a free trailer out of the deal! (Not really ~ a very nice Porsche owner loaned Dave ~ a complete stranger ~ his race trailer to pull his crippled Z home with. Dave, you hadn't come back by the time I left ~ did you ever give it back?)
Bob Sharp dropped by to encourage everyone and watch some of the action. The Member Ride of the Month drove right past me without even a nod  and kept on going. :? The CTZCC crowd was very happy to zee each other again after such a long winter, and the pits was all smiles and laughter. RDZ brought their War Wagons full of tools and supplies ~ a very wiZe plan for all future events. We should rent them!

THANK YOU, NYZCC, for including us in this fun event! We look forward to zeeing you guyz many times during this Zeason!
Here are a few of the better shots I got:

Well, let's Zee if the kid who played hooky today  can help out.

Picture #3: Nice try, Frank, but we always knew Mr Newman as PLN.

Picture #4: Everybody who knows anything about a Z Car, whether
a newbie or a 41-year veteran, knows that Mr K's signature is worth
at least 100 HP more at the rear wheels, at least 110 more lb-ft of
torque, and at least $5000 on the price tag when selling.

Picture #5: Tough to tell with the Z Club cap on, but offhand I would
guess him to be Santa Claus................

Picture #8: Y'all have to remember that Big Al lived in TX a long time.
I remember how when I was into drag racing while living down there
myself, you have to tote out every trick in the book, including stop-
ping at the airport on the way in for some 110 octane avgas. Them
thar' Texans play rough, so ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

All Z Best,.......................Rick (and Kathy, of course)

I had never driven a truck/trailer before so it was a high performance driving event (HPDE) for me in a few ways today. Yes, I gave Gary Quick, his rig back, in Poughkeepsie. I ran home to drop off the limp Z car and then raced back upstate with the towing rig, to a rendezvous point. After the event, he drove his Porsche to meet us on his way home, where he reclaimed his tow rig. Needless to say, I could not thank him and his lovely assistant Laurel enough for what they did. I hid a cash reward in his glove box and filled up his truck for him. He didn't want anything in return, and told me to pay it forward. An amazing gesture, all too rare in this day and age.

The Z is resting at my parents house nearby. My driveway was too steep and narrow to get the trailer into. I'll do a head gasket swap at their house to get it running, and then drive it to my garage for a full rebuild.

Strangely enough I feel some sort of satisfaction, having found the limit of the motor. Knowing that it will be better than it was, when I am done, and that I have that little backup 240Z to spin around town with, makes it a not so bitter pill.

Oh no! My condolences for the headgasket... At least it went out in a suitable fashion! :P

Dave, your "event" keeps ringing in my head as the highlight of the day. This shows the great camaraderie among track people (not even all-out racers), which extends even across rival brands.

Mr. Gary Quick has now caused me to reconsider my harsh comments about Porsche owners (even tho I was one myself, as a teen). That was a truly great gesture, and I'm proud of you for the sneaky (and very honorable) way in which you repaid his generosity and trust. Well done, Sir!

When I look back on today, years hence, I guarantee you this incident will be one of the strong memories I tell about!

Frank

Dave, I haven't had a chance to review the pictures I took yesterday, but I know that I explicitly decided not to record a fellow Z brother's bad luck.... Other then I wanted to get a photo of you in your car.

What a day!

I am glad to hear everyone had a great day even if car troubles were part of it. I had issues on track and even on the ride home! Still was a great day.

Happy so many of the CTZCC group could make it out to enjoy a beautilful April day! The July event is just around the corner!

Highlights for me of the day are:

1. Watching some of the NYZCC members running in the green group! They were dicing it up all day and did have a blast. I think I have them all hooked now.

2. Watching DC drive his car to the limit and having someone offer up a free tow home. Goes to show how trusting n tight nitched track guys are.

3. Having one of the board members of the Hudsun Valley Porsche Club come up to me and say they really do enjoy having the Z clubs here and look forward to more in the future.

And finally being able to enjoy the day and the drive back and forth to the track. Was able to catch up with a few people and just talk cars and life.

Again, thank you to all who showed up and hope see you all at the next Z function.

sorry Frank didn't even see you. heck i didn't even know you were showing up. i was there from 10:30 to like 3. so i apologize. i was probably in deep conversation with my buddy Charlie who loved being back at his old home. of course he had to stop and see the skip barber cars. we walked around the entire track and he told me about the whole course. so next track day he can help me out. yeah it sucks that Dave's Z blew a head gasket. that was the thickest white smoke i've ever seen. it was definitely a great day. i don't see my buddy Charlie much so this was a great way to spend together. i introduced him to all the Z people. of course the guys over at RDZ were super nice and of course my friend was impressed with both the RDZ Z's. :D i look forward to the next track day. so Frank you know you are my buddy i also probably didn't see you cause i didn't want to hit any Porsches.... and of course it was great seeing all my Z buddies. I'm sure Phil took some great pictures.

Beautiful,vibration-free footage! Looked like a blast! Could even see your speedo a few timez. Nice apexes too. Too bad you blowed up,but hey,you got some pretty fine use out of a boneyard motor.

Zee ya around

Mike that 280Z is an awesome track setup. Originally built by Chris Holmes of ZANY.

I just invented my new slogan..."He who dies with the most broken toys wins." :?

The dead Z fired up in my driveway today and I was able to back her up into my garage. It was good to hear from her. She won't go down without a fight!
