Well, dear old Alice hasn't responded to any of my emails, so either she doesn't care to meet me, or the photos of the old places bring back bad memories for her. Who knows?
I intend to drive the Z up to the Cape this spring and zee her anyway. Not looking fwd to getting my Z all sea-salted, and I've been to P-town enough not to like it very much. There were some alley-roads in that town so narrow you could almost knock on doors across the street from each other , simultaneously. A guy and a girl holding hands in the middle of the street could easily ring every doorbell on the block without letting go of each other. (The real trick would be finding a GUY and a GIRL holding hands in Ptown!)
But its a wonderful ride up there and I want to do it. No set date yet, but I'll let everyone know in advance (especially Phrog, who lives there now).

Frank

The drive up 6A to Provincetown from the Bourne bridge is quite scenic. I regret to say Megan and I never got a chance to do it in the Z because of its mechanical issues last year. We ended taking the Mazda instead, nowhere near as visceral and exciting from the driving perspective.

Maybe I can convince the missus to come along, too. I don't think I could get her to tag along for a car show like ZCCR's, but for a fun run, it might be doable.

This whole post was from earlier this year (2011), but Alice never responded to my many emails.

Well, here it is, Thanksgiving 2011, and she FINALLY answered my Happy Turkey Alice email :D . She said she looks fwd to "seeing all those wonderful cars pull up in front of (her) house"!

I doubt there's enough time left in the year to get a good cruise up there now, but come spring 2012, Ptown Cape Cod would make a pretty good destination for an overnight fun run! Maybe Phrog's 280 will be roadworthy by then, too? It would make a good shakedown cruise for the Carrot Car, if we all went with him.

SEE? If you wait long enough and have enough patience, you really CAN get anything you want!

Frank,
Sounds like a great idea for early spring or even next autumn before or after the crowds when the rates are decent. Traffic onto the Cape can be brutal. Keep this idea active!
Our Son rents a place at North Truro in July. We generally join in for 2 nights (spring for the lobstahs too) but all that gear and the kayak won't fit in the trunk of the 350. The Outback gets the nod for that adventure.
A nice weekend trip is always something to be considered.
Alan

:) Frank, you brought back some fond memories. I know the song well!

I dated a girl from Great Barrington back in the late 60's while I was going to college in Springfield MA. Once, while visiting her neighborhood she pointed out the "church" said Alice lived in. I never did see the restaurant in nearby Stockbridge. Back then, my girlfriend used to see old Norman Rockwell bicycling though town. Have you visited his museum? I really love driving my Z up into the Berkshires. Too bad I didn't see your post until today. I would have made the trip with you. As it turned out, I had driven though GB just this past Friday taking advantage of the beautiful weather we had!

We need to take some cruises together!

Regards,

John Kish :D

Here it is, Johnny ~ this should bring back some 40 y/o memories for you. A group of CTZCC Zs parked beside Alice's church-home, just before Thanksgiving last year. It's now called The Guthrie Center for Performing Arts. We actually helped rake the leaves, then the caretaker carried them TO THE DUMP!

It was a great trip, and one of my happier memories with this Club. Meeting Alice is on my 'bucket list', and I've waited about 45 years to do it.

We would certainly welcome your beautiful 240 if you decide to come along with us.

Frank
