just thought i would put the idea out there. i was discussing with Thor about how awesome it would be to go up to Gernany in October. Cause as we all know some of the best beer is in Germany.(not that we would be drinking it there as a club :) ) and of course some great cars out there. he came out to see us i think we should make the effort to go and visit him. i have no clue cost factor or anything. we could always hold a fundraiser?

Mike, I think that's a fabulous idea. You are quite the creative genius,
both at work and in the Club. I'm really glad you are on our team.

Now let's see. Oktober is the month fur Oktoberfest, ja? So that is a
good enough reason right there. But as I addressed in another thread,
I would be elated to be present for Thor's next best-in-show award. So,
I dunno how well that matches up. If it doesn't match up, we can join
Thor for his event and have our own April, May, June, or Julyfest. Thor,
we need your input, buddy! I'll even leave Lucky 13 home so you don't
have any close competition!

Ottersweier, as I recall, is pretty Central. My mother's family were from
Saarbrucken in the Alsace (southwestern) and Dresden in what was East
Germany. But we know we have no family left, because many years
ago Uncle Charlie went for an extended stay and could find no family left.
I would still like to visit there at least once while I am alive. Well, that
makes sense, why would I want to visit there when I am dead?

Right, Rick!

My only (and I mean my ONLY) hesitation about going to Germany to hold a monthly meeting, is that they wouldn't allow us to bring our Zs. :(

Even if they did, the carz would be all dirty or salty from the boat trip. The last time my 240Z was transported by ship (Hawaii to California), another deck car bonked it on the nose and bent the hood.

I just can't picture a Z meeting without the carz, and I wouldn't want to risk more damage to mine again.

Rick - thanks for the compliments. i just thought it would be cool. even if it was maybe 10 of us or something representing the club.

Frank - our Z's are not the only things that make us a club. our pure passion for them is what makes us a club. heck Thor was without his baby when he came to see us. plus i would love to see his Z in person. man! what a beautiful Z! :)

so let's see if we can get something going. i have vacation time coming up in October. i would imagine fundraisers and maybe some sponsors could help send a chosen few to Germany. Obviously sending the entire club would be impossible. i would suggest maybe having 5 or 10 spots and have it be a first come first serve basis. hey if i have to sell cookies or something to get to Germany i will do it!

Thor what do you think??

Hey folks,
seems you target this seriously! Mike, what a wonderful idea.
That would be a boom!
First is: the "Oktoberfest" starts at September 18th, ends at Oktober 4th. Nobody knows why the bavarian guys call it the "October"-Fest.
Its in Munich, thats circa 250 mls south from us.
It's unique, of course, but also exhausting.
A monthly meeting could happen at a Nissan dealership next to us. The boss is an old friend, he has a 260 2+2 (1974). We could organize some more classic Zedds and from Nissan Europe additionally some 370's, to drive them on a racetrack (the LUK driving center, http://www.drivingcenter-baden.de/).
We care for lodging, BBQs, catering, shuttle service etc. etc.

My Z will be on display in the near future at the "International Concours d' Elegance, Schwetzingen" (http://www.oldtimergala.de/index.php?artid=703) beginning of September. A wonderful and significant classic car event. Thats too soon for a meeting, isn't it? I think we should not jump the gun on that.

So: I'm sure it's possible to organize a significant meeting here. And you all can drive Z's on the autobahn, a classic one (mine), several 370s, of course the GT-R. And there are lots of ideas for a wonderful supporting program (like a dinner with "tarte flambee" in the Alsace, France). That promises tons of fun!

Please keep me up to date!

Thor

Anyone know how much it costs to ship a car to and from the European mainland?

Sven is also our member! He joined us last year, after he shipped "THORZ" (I like that! :D ) Z to Europe for him.

You should be able to PM Sven on this website. Under Memberlist, find Sven's name and press his PM or email button.
