Every Monday night during the summer North Haven holds a free hotrod cruise-in. Last year more than 100 American cars showed up every Monday. We asked if we could show some Z cars and they let us. The interest and nostalgia our carz generated was rewarding. :D Now we're invited back forever.

This was the event we met Rick and Kathy at! They wandered out of the sizable crowd to admire Phrog's striking 280Z Fairlady Carrot Car. One thing led to another and now Lucky#13 is a life-member of the CTZCC.

Many of our members have shown their Z cars at this free event, and we intend to continue attending this year. Ask Ross, Mike R, Keith, Bryan, Phil, Phrog, Rick, Dave S, me, and others what a fun event this is.

The season's first cruise-in is next Monday night, 10May. Cars begin arriving about 5:30PM and leave about 10PM.

The location is the huge Stop & Shop plaza parkinglot, at the corner of Washington Avenue and Rte22 (Clintonville Rd) in North Haven. You'll see the cars gathered behind the Walgreens Drug store and the Dairy Queen Grill and Chill.

Washington Ave is off Rte 15 (Merrit Pkwy) exit #63, or off I-91 exit #12.

There are many restaurants and facilities in the plaza. The atmosphere is relaxed and 1950s/60s/70s Rock & Roll music is played by a live DJ throughout the evening. A 50/50 raffle pays the DJ.

For a cool time, lots of friendly folks, and a chance to show your Z, spin down to North Haven for a couple hours this coming Monday night.

Z ya there ~
Frank T

If anyone decides to go each week, let us know... I forgot all about this.

I'd like to make a few of these.

Well, I went last night and so did Rick and Kathy. But due to the weird cold weather only a few cars showed up. They announced that they will "officially" begin these shows after Memorial Day weekend, but that we could continue to gather informally before then if we want (without the DJ).

It was heartening to discover that altho only a handful of cars were there, one was an MG and another was a Z! 8)

Slight correction, Frank: if taking I-91 northbound, Exit 11 would be
easier. At the top of the exit you are looking across Rte 22 right into
the venue, although you would then have to go right-left-left unless you
are into crashing fences and flying off embankments with your Z.

Everything else Frank shared is excellent, so let's run a little test and
see how many cavemen we have who can do that! (Find the exit, not
fly their Z)

Tonight, Mon/31May10, is the first official night for this cruise-in. They will continue each Monday night throughout the summer.

Cars begin arriving about 5PM, but continue to arrive thru the evening, as some people get out of work later than others.

This is a wonderful, free, fun time. It's mostly American Iron and muscle cars, but last year we introduced a lot of Japanese Tin and drew some very genuine interest with the carz.

As has been described since this weekly event closed for last year's season, this Club met Kathy and Rick at one of these meets, and thereby made the Z World's foremost discovery of Lucky #13. It was a happenstance event, but it just goes to show ya that you never know what will come from casual little meets like this.

Last year Phil, Phrog, Ross, Mike Rosann and I brought our Zs to this event fairly regularly. It was always a good time and this year we expect Rick to bring his FIRST EVER FOR SALE 240Z to display, as well.

Icecream is available a stone's throw away, 1950s and 60s rock n roll music is played by a DJ, trophys are given out and the 50/50 usually pays well over $100. The last event of the 2009 season brought out more than 150 cars.

Not bad for free.

Expect at least four of these to go by before my car is capable of showing up.

Well Phrog, we talked about you behind your back, anyway.

About 80-90 cars showed up, Rick, Kathy and I were there. The crowd was friendly and very happy to be back after a long winter. Three trophies were awarded and the 50/50 was $100, which I contributed to. The winner was the guy who stood in the ticket line immediately ahead of me :? Oh well ~ I just go there for the fun of it anyway, and there was plenty of that, and some really good Rock n Roll.

The Z drew plenty of attention! :D Everybody seems to have a "Z" story; those over 30 had one, and those under 30 want one!

Zee y'all there next Monday if the weather's good.

Frank

Tonight is forecast to be perfect weather. The carz begin arriving anytime after 1700 (that's 5PM). No admission fee, no hassles. We park the Zs in the 'special interest' group, at the far end of the lot.

You will NOT be disappointed if you make this Cruise-In. DQ is right next door for food, there is plenty of space to park without crowding your baby, and the people are pretty nice. The Rock n Roll might stir some highschool memories for the Babyboomers, and the cars are wonderful.

Come and go as you please, but please come. No need to show a car ~ just show up and mingle.

Frank

How late are you usually hanging around, Frank? I am unsure what time the in-laws are leaving, but if its early enough I may try to sneak out.

I'll be there tonight with Meg at some point. I'll be there, but my Z won't. Just heading over to eye-hump some cars and hang out. :)

Had a good time here tonight. More than 100 cars showed up. I was among the first 6 cars to arrive, and parked all by my lonesome waaaay down in the last row. 30 minutes later my Z was surrounded by 30 corvettes! :x

Several of our members showed up. Mike R brought his Cool Z. Mike T brought his 'cool Z'. Walt drifted thru describing the work being done on his Z. Chris came without his Carrot Car, but did bring Megan in a skirt, which sort of stopped the show and nearly won her a trophy. 8)

Altogether we had 5 Z cars there. One of them, a 350Z, had an LS2 Corvette engine neatly squeezed into it. The owner (not our member) said it improved every facet of the car's personality.
