Only a week left until the 40th Annual Vintage Sports Car Club races and shows at our local Lime Rock Park! September 1st thru 5th will be a 120 hour extravaganZa of old car Nirvana.

If you own (or just love) the sports and racing cars from the 20s 30s 40s 50s 60s and 70s, this is the place to be over the Labor Day Weekend. Some of us camp out for the entire 5 day event; others of us simply pick the day (or 2) which favor our greatest interest.

Because our Datsun Zs are now 50+ years old, they are welcome among this excellent company of world-class cars. Here's the schedule for this year:

https://limerock.com/event/hf40/
https://limerock.com/events/historic-festival-40/

and here's a little teaser to whet your appetite:

https://www.vscca.org/vscca-premiered-film

Due to the varied interests and home BBQ schedules, not all of us will be gathering there at the same time, but some of us will be present on each day for their favorite event. (Our cars got invited to participate in many of the highlighted events last year).

Thu/01Sep: 18 mile parade thru local towns, festival on Falls Village green
Fri/02Sep: VSCCA racing at LRP
Sat/03Sep: VSCCA racing at LRP
Sun/04Sep: Concourse d'Elegance and gathering of the Marques at LRP ($25)
Mon/05Sep: VSCCA racing at LRP

Sound Off if you intend to go, so maybe some other Clubbies can caravan or meet with you there. The Zs should be well represented in the race, the show, and the parade.

Anyone who's ever attended one of these fabulous weekends is encouraged to relate your experiences and recommendations to the rest of us. Veterans are always admitted free at LRP.

Hope to Z you there!
Frank T

I'll be there Friday through Sunday! Ive got my same camp spot back by the uphill and will be flying the Datsun Flag. Planning on driving the 510 out.

My neighbors - also Datsun guys - are hoping to bring their 2 Z's out as well from Nantucket.

Looks like it should be a great weekend!

Looking forward to the LRP Historics this weekend. Looks like the Datsun contingent will be camped out in the same area. We will have our two 240's in attendance. We will arrive on Thursday, staying through Monday.
Both our Z's were accepted into the Parade on Thursday afternoon, starting on the Sam Posey straight and ending 17-18 miles later at a party in Falls Village. Fast fun tour on closed roads.
Hope to see lots of CTZCC members...Last year parade start and finish:

Q: Is the party on the green open to the public, or can only the invited drivers/passengers attend?

Frank, the area is open to the public, you might have to park on a side street.

Great day today (Saturday race day) at Limerock Park!

My son Mike and I arrived at the park at around 8:30AM and were able to park in the infield and set up our chairs and cooler at our usual viewing spot on the hill facing the "left hander". We decided to take a walk and look for some fellow Z clubbers who we knew were planning to be at the "Rock". We soon found both Colin Sr. and Colin Jr. at their campsite just hanging out and enjoying the morning sun. It was great chatting with both of them as the last time I saw both of them together was at the Lake George car show in 2019. Soon Devin (red 510 from MA) showed up and joined in the conversation. Mike and I went over to visit with Devin and his two buds (each own 240Z's and who live in Nantucket) at their campsite. We enjoyed watching the cars racing up the "uphill" with these fun guys.

Afterwards we headed down to the paddock areas where we saw a bunch of the Trans-Am cars getting ready to head out on the track and saw many other cars being prepped for their races, including a few Z cars. We stopped in to see Jake Clapp working on his #88 1970 "butterscotch" 240Z. Had fun chatting with him as he was getting ready for his group race at around 2:20pm.
This event was also a tribute to the Corvette. There were many on display including a large tent that had many one of a kind "prototypes".

As usual, they group the five 240Z's in the "Big Bore" car class having them run against Mustangs, Corvettes and Camaros. Don't know why they do this, but it's amazing that these little Datsuns keep up with these V8 cars!

After quite a lot of walking, we finally settled into our chairs and enjoyed watching the races while we each ate a very tasty bratwurst :D. The weather was perfect today and we enjoyed meeting old friends and watching all 9 groups (classes) of cars battling it out on the track. Great Fun today! Here are a few pictures of some of the cars taken in the paddock areas.

Anyone care to guess what the little green car is?

The little green car is the aftermath of a 3-way head-on high-speed collision btwn a FIAT Topolino, a Citroen 2CV and a 1940 Ford.
Right?

Just returned home from a great day at LRP's Gathering of the Marques. Vinny Bedini and I got in free, walked the track and stopped at about 100 separate cars to re-live old memories and discuss each other's favorite cars. We found Colin & Colin, Inc, and saw a few 240Zs from a distance, but each time we spied one it was over our shoulder in an area we had already walked thru. The rain held off until well after we were gone.

We left at dinner time and toured the area, stopping for dinner at a really nice local restaurant.

I took about 100 photographs and will try to transfer them from camera to computer for all to enjoy.

A good way to end the organized race season, and it makes us hungry for seeng the cars together at this month's meeting and next.

Frank T

PS Yes John, I was very close! :)

Terrific weekend at Lime Rock, arrived on Thursday for the Parade, we left Sunday afternoon to get ahead of the rain, nothing worse then packing up a wet canvas tent. Then you have to set it up again when you get home to let it dry.
Some photos, the lads from Nantucket, Chris and Mac, Devon from MA, and Colin, and me, NY and CT. Nothing better than sitting around the campfire, drinking beer and talking cars!
We were also on hand to witness the ceremony renaming of the "No Name Straight" to the Paul Newman Straight. Very Cool.
More photos to follow.
